don't be naive, the services are a necessary part on recruiting, and new media is here to stay. You either support them and help the programs, or expect free info, watch them dissapear, and w/it a substantial amount of trail buzz they generate. Believe me, the staffs are ecstatic we finally have a reputable service at rivals.

A+. Still a substantial amount of naivety among fans on certain subjects.

Beyond that, the football staff is fantastic w/regards to new media. They use the services as a two way street. Not only does it give the program and certain kids shine, but they get to gauge interest from kid via a no nonsense 3rd party. There is a 'star' on the hoops team, whose main recruiter will tell you straight up, that he needed the services, and certain informed posters, to create the smokescreen he needed to get the verbal. It was masterful and orchestrated

plus if you subscribe to them long enough you can see through the smokescreen, the in-house posters and agendas of the various, competing sites/schools-that's when you might actually learn something about recruiting and wining in college athletics

To be fair, this wasnt a force out, and weve had our share of those. Justin has had his chances, lots of burn, many start, and just never took advantage. His minutes tell the tale. Yes, they do know where the ship is going, barring something falls through

Justin helped this team to 20 wins and seemed like a wonderful person who played very hard. I will miss him dearly. A degree from SMU would have helped me more than one from IUPU for example. He is a class act and thank you Justin for your service to this program. Wished you were staying unlike 90% of the posters on this particular thread who all they talk about is " who we going to get to transfer in to SMU? I would take a proven player anyday. You helped us win partner.

Hoofprint wrote:A friend called me at work today and said rivals is claiming a starter is transferring. He said he cancelled his account, and I told him I don't have one and never will. But I started to think about starters. Dia, Walker and Mangrum are graduating. Can't see Nyakundi leaving before his fifth season. But Haynes? He started 13 of 35 games. Only Clinkscales (5) and Harp (9) started fewer games. But anything in the interest of stirring up subscriptions, right?

Selfishly, I hope this rumor isn't true ... I like to see players that start as Mustangs leave with an SMU degree in hand. But if it is true that Haynes is leaving, I wish him all the best, wherever he ends up.

Agree! Start as a Mustang and leave with an SMU degree in hand. Is there any truth to the rumor that Mangrum might get a 6th year due to injuries at North Texas. That would be great. Enjoyed this team more than any in the last several years. Still loved watching John Killen play though.

Disagree with your quote. How can the "handwriting be on the wall". Are you close with the coaching staff? Do you have inside knowledge? Justin could have come back if he decided to come back. He wasn't forced out. Just ask him before making your erroneous statement.

Agreed and good that this is posted here for Pony Fans to know as it really helps with recruiting to have those Rivals and Scout guys calling recruits and keeping in touch....it makes us appear much more legit. I try to post at least one time a day so it keeps the site activity up also....its worth the small amount to assist.

Jerry Meyer is very good with Rivals. There is no question about that. I think that Mike Kunstadt has done more for high school basketball in the state of Texas then any other person. He is a great person, can evaluate, works hard, honest, and runs the Great American Shootout which brings 250 college coaches to Denton. Google his name and thank him. If you have a son looking for a scholarship - get him in front of Mike. He is the real deal!

usually the greatest naivete results from those that believe everything they read and don't have the full breadth of sometimes conflicting information needed to challenge the conventional wisdom.

this is true. Outside of the services, my best info most often comes from those not associated w/my schools. Some services end up having a propaganda element, that stems from leaks from the staff. While extremely valuable, that's just part of the story. You can't get baited, and you have to have thick skin, especially if you don't have contacts beyond reading the services.
