If the B12 is about to explode, then every conference is going to be active to angle in on the leftovers or pull teams from other conferences. The ACC has to get better or it could lose a team or two. It will likely be looking at Syracuse and WVU. The BE has to deal with potential ACC defections and restocking if they do. That means looking at B12 leftovers like KU, KSU and Mo. OU who knows what they'll do. That leaves ISU, OSU TT, Baylor, UT. Does UT go indy? If they do, then what do ISU,TT, Baylor, OSU do? Perhaps they look at CUSA west and MWC east and start counting noses. They talk to SMU, TCU, Houston, Memphis, UNM, and BYU and try and put together something that is worth watching and could keep its BCS $$$$. Add in the problem that to get an auto-bid to the NCAA. The MWC and CUSA would of course talk as well about some sort of merger. I love summer. Lots of dead kittens.

I got my hopes up last summer. I'm not going to again until something is set in stone. While I agree that the writing is on the wall, there's just nothing substantial yet.

I suppose I'm in the camp that would prefer for TAMU to be in the SEC, but keep the Thanksgiving game against tu as a nonconference game. For what my conjecture is worth for the final shakedown:

- TAMU and OU to SEC West, and a current SECW team moves East. Geographically, Bama makes the most sense, but they have plenty of weight to throw around in where they end up.

- tu goes independent

- Exciting New Conference Name: Tech, Okie State, Baylor, SMU, Houston, Tulsa, Kansas, KState, TCU (if they prefer this to BE), and maybe UTEP?

- Mizzou to BE

- Iowa State gets hosed. It, along with CUSA get shipped off to assorted conferences (lucky/good teams to ACC and BE - the rest to Sun Belt/WAC/MAC)

- The day of the Superconference inches ever closer, and the first horseman of the apocalypse pours his morning coffee and starts saddling up.

When it finally happens, "I, for one, welcome our new SEC overlords"

Guys, look, I've told you why this isn't going to happen. But, whatever, the TAMU prez goes on a bender with homemade 'shine and decides to create an extremely expensive divorce and legislative civil war.
Ask yourselves: DOES THIS HELP US?

1. This doesn't necessarily open a door for anyone, much less us, into the Big XII. The Big XII still owns the state of Texas, they just have a chunk taken out of it, one that can't be replaced by a small private school. If they look anywhere for a replacement with a single school, or maybe even two, we won't be them, I'm sorry. And if TCU gets it, that hurts us even more.
2. This still doesn't mean UT goes indy. UT's reaction?
"Fine. So What? A&M, you owe our conference 20 Mil for leaving, forfeit next year's conference cut, AND we divide up the remaining revenue between us and OU. Hell, we're making money hand over foot! All we have to do is make sure our existing TV contracts stay put - No way we're leaving the Big XII now, especially if that means we send OU straight into the SEC's hands, we'll lose too much money and exposure!"
This means the Big XII is alive and well, making even MORE money per member, and fatter and happier.
3. Nightmare scenario #1 for Texas colleges (all of us) has come true: THE SEC IS NOW IN TEXAS.
This means we are now competing with the SEC for recruits, TV sets, money. Watch the SEC put a chamionship game in Jerry-World. Yes, they will do it, even just once, for money and exposure, tix sold be damned. Watch Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Vandy, and all SEC teams walk into our recruits living rooms and walk away with them - YOU THINK COMPETITION FOR RECRUITS IS TOUGH NOW? All they need is an in. A&M would provide that to them.

WAKE UP. WE DON'T WANT THIS!! THE ONLY WAY THIS WOULD HELP US WOULD BE IF THIS DIRECTLY INFLUENCED US GETTING INTO A MAJOR CONFERENCE, AND EVEN IF THAT DID HAPPEN, IT'S STILL A MIXED BAG.

Regardless of what happens I just hope our AD is being proactive and not just out interviewing.

Chip Brown is shooting down TAMU to the SEC citing sources at the highest levels of TAMU's administration.

Not sure if Chip Brown is the most trust worthy of sources - UT shill.

I just hope our TTU friends had the conversation recorded with ESPN/LHN--several members of Congress would love to jerk their broadcasting rights and sport monopoly around.

A&M to SEC talks getting stronger?

Post by TidePony »

Word around Tuscaloosa is that conversations with Texas A&M and the SEC conference office in Birmingham remain ongoing and edging closer and closer to an official invitation. Something may not happen tomorrow, but it likely will soon. And by the way, as a graduate of both Alabama and SMU (graduate school), it's awesome to say Roll Tide and Pony Up!
