If Houston leaves to join the Big 12 and we are stuck holding the back we are SCREWED. CUSA becomes the Sun Belt and we are knocked even further down the pecking order. Should this happen SMU should have serious conversations about the future of the program and if we really want to be associated with the kind of schools that will be left after the superconferences start aligning.

Norm said earlier that we will have 4 sixteen team conferences within 10 years. Everyone else will be dropped to Div. 1AA. Does SMU really want to be one of those teams? Is it worth it to us to even try?

OK. So I'm Eeyore for seeing NO future whatsoever for SMU if we aren't in the mix for realignment? I'm being serious. If it comes down to that then lets throw a sh*t ton of money into the basketball program and into academia and become the University of Chicago. I'd rather do that than be D1AA after the dust settles.

If we are left out of a super conference I say keep football but put very little emphasis on it. Maybe drop all together. Then put all your resources into basketball. You only need 5 good players to make a run.

I agree. After the dust settles if we are left out (and at this point you'd have to believe we will) we might consider dropping football. Pains me to say it but we got serious about football too little too late. I hope I'm wrong.
