SMU:Red and Blue Army

Post by smusic 00 »

I was proud of my comrades in 104 taking to the chants so quickly. I think everyone was shocked that it worked. Btw, utilizing texts, twitter, fbook to let us know when to expect it would help, I think. I got a text from you guys and passed it along to my seat mates. Like: 1st defensive series in 3rd qtr, or around 10:00 mark in 2nd.

can we agree that it's best to do such chants when we are on defense and not offense?

Actually implementing the chant was difficult because we had to go over to the students, explain who we were, what we wanted them to do and on the initial 2 attempts, it didn't work because it wasn't loud enough. Finally, the students got loud, our group heard the RED! and followed with BLUE! and it caught on. The second time, this time student initiated, I think we were on offense. We chanted back to encourage it, but I agree, not ideal. Somehow I need to get the email of whoever is leading the Mustang XI so we can coordinate this better. I think it needs to go back and forth for a set number of times (3 or 5) and it would great if we could coordinate this by event, like start of the 3rd quarter or only while we are on defense, etc.

As far as texting or tweeting, I have terrible service while in the stadium...is this an AT&T issue or just my phone? Is there a service that works? Ford really is a cellular black-hole for me.

They do:
B....Y....U....Cougars

we do:

S....M....U....Mustangs

was pretty impressive first time I saw it first hand at a game at AGC where Sarkisian & BYU trounced the froggies

Our next attempt was going to be a bit more ambitious than the last: RED! BLUE! S-M! -U!

S-! -M-! -U! MUSTANGS!...I like it. I think we're going to start small, try to get both the students and the alumni used to cross-stadium chants...then go bigger.

We really appreciates the input we've received on PonyFans and Facebook. Thank you! We can and will do anything we can to make coming for Ford a more exciting and team supporting experience.

RGV that chant reminds me of someone's username...I wonder if that was what they had in mind when they made it...

haha

As a student I tried to get us to start this chant...but being 1-11 didn't get people to enthused.

all you need is S (from one side) M(from the other) and everyone in the stadium screaming UUUUUUUUUUU. I would die a happy man if this ever happened.

Loved being a part of the red blue chant at the last game...just wished we could also do it with S....M....U.

I'll see what I can do to get you in touch with Mustang 11....I am an alum of the organization and also a previous advisor.

Please do what you can to implement the simple S....M....U chant I described in my post above.

That's awesome! RBA is all about making Ford Stadium dreams come true! We're the Make-A-Wish for all of us who wasted away through 0 and 1 win seasons. I was going to try S-M! (one side) -U! (other) as kinda a fill-in-the-blank cheer but maybe you're right, we could do S-! (one side) -M-! (other) -U! (back again) and that would be much cooler because it would have kind of a stereophonic effect. I sent an email to Dr. Lori White asking who to contact for the Mustang XI. Nor worries, we'll get this hammered out. Pretty awesome the first time around though! Again thank you everyone who participated.

1) Because its modeled after soccer supporters groups

2) Because scarves are way more awesome than shirts

Great question. I chose a scarf for two reasons 1) I've been to a few different MLS stadiums and despite attendance problems, despite soccer's general 3rd tier popularity, despite the fact that families with younger children tend to be the majority of fans...they have the best fans and I have more fun in those games than I have ever had at any football stadium, college or pro. All these MLS teams have Supporter's Groups who have scarves, dance, waive flags, and cheer throughout the game. SMU has almost the exact same problems as MLS has as far as fan attendance but Supporter's Groups have solved at least the experience part of the equations...ergo, SMU needs a Supporter's Group. 2) I wanted something that would have a big effect on television and on the field: I wanted both teams to notice us, coaches to notice us, cameras to notice us, fans to notice us, and I wanted to be something hard to ignore. Given the choice of a scarf or a t-shirt, I thought the scarf packed more punch. Plus I didn't want to have to print out a t-shirt for a Red Out, a Blue Out, a White Out ($$), the scarf could have both colors and so I just needed one per member. And I wanted something unique for SMU. I wanted members to have something immediately distinguishing. I have found that there are a lot of fans who remain quiet at games for fear of appearing different or getting dirty looks, but secretly want to be loud and support the Mustangs. I wanted them to be able to locate and join up with Members at games...safety in numbers. T-Shirts, less so.
