Right. I just hope Norm is right. Simply because if a few teams leave C-USA, then we need to be one of them.

Trying to listen to the Hardline is the ultimate beat down. I quit trying to. Corby is a spare - as is Danny. (Never known anybody from Knox City who wasn't) After George, Craig and Gordon finish at 10:00, I'm outta there for the day. Norm IS quite knowledgable but, ultimately, irritating.

truth is that the hope for a reasonable conference with Baylor, SMU, TCU and Houston together died in this round of expansion. None of these options are going to make much sense.

Reasonable? Since when did that matter in college football?

Big East is going to fail, even w/those potential additions. Screw the immediate AQ and get to a conference that upgrades the schedule, and that has a better case for AQ in 13 or 14 than the Big East

I would prefer this scenario to the Big 12 or any other pipedream. We get to continue playing competition that we can beat regularly, and at the same time have a realistic shot at a BCS bowl in the next 3 years. That is insanely exciting.

The Big EaSt has value bc of bball, don't forget.

UL and Cincy are basketball schools, they want to be associated with Georgetown, Nova, ND etc as much as have a good fb program.

If the Big East can be saved, they prefer to stay. The prob is UConn leaving...or Rutgers going to Big10.

Big 10's best options included Pitt and Cuse, but not anymore.

But, right now, the ACC is looking stupid having received terrible fb PITT and Cuse to backfill against a perceived loss of one of their better programs to the SEC - which may never happen.

I am always confused by blind confidence. The BE has AQ status right now. That we know for sure. Also, a BCS bowl game for SMU out of the Big East would make us very attractive for the next realignment. This conference hopping doesn't mean we stay in the Big East for good. We simply use it to boost our national perception. The Big East helps us do that by upgrading our schedule AND giving us a real competitive chance at a big bowl game.

Confidently claiming that the Big East will fail is not a good enough reason to settle for a non-AQ conference.

"Big East presidents call this am didn't yield any invitations. Expect some soon, perhaps as early as next week."

I know ESPN has all these headlines that the Big East is crumbling. But where are these teams going. ACC would have invited UCONN/Rutgers if they wanted them. Big 12 doesn't seem to be adding Cincy/Louisville or WVU. Where is USF going? its not going to crumble. someone can throw this in my face if i'm wrong, but i just dont see it right now. maybe in 6 years, same can be said for the big 12.

We all need to stop dreaming and return to reality. SMU is lost in a long list of major conferences Plan C. We should focus on consistently winning in CUSA and setting ourselves apart on the football field "football players play football during football season". SMU's time is not now, lets hope we turn things around before it too late.

I don't think people remember how great it WAS.

Reality is that we are starting to win games, mostly with Phil Bennett recruits. We are on the upswing, and should be pretty dang good in a few years when more realignment shakes out. Not sure where we end up, but a winning program in a market like DFW will not be neglected.
