Look - 75-80 teams will be invited to the next BCS "cut" - we just need to stay where we are - in the 25-40 range - continue building our fan base and going to bowl games. The right fit will find us. Not worried about this alignment at this point. We are "on deck"

Interesting... so the Big East has invited all of these teams as football only so that they can hold on to the basketball side of the conference.
The issue they are going to have is that it doesn't strengthen the conference as a whole enough to keep other conferences from pecking at it. This arrangement is not going to last for very long. It is very clear, as someone else pointed out, that Boise is being added for the BCS points.
If the CUSA/MWC people had their act together, this is where they land a CUSA - MWC merger to hold on to UCF and Boise. That merged conference would be BCS over the Big East leftovers, and would be a more stable environment on both the football and basketball side of things.

We will be worse off. Somewhat worse off IMO.
Seats are being taken at the BCS table and we are getting excluded.
So far there is no precendent for a team having their BCS status revoked. We clearly offer more than the ISU, Wash-St or Baylor's of the world, but there is ZERO talk of us replacing these type of schools.
He may be going overboard, but SMT has a right to be concerned.

A few Big East ADs are pushing for Boise. But they haven't been discussed formally and was told chances are "slim to none."

That's awesome.....our man Stallion with some fight in him!!!!
Ok, so I'll join in.
Can you name 8 teams other than SMU that have been mentioned to 'move up" to BCS status that are not currently in the BCS....wait, wait.......

Foks- we are on the cusp.

I don't disagree that we should pay attention and be a little concerned...I just don't get what freaking out at every unsubstantiated report out there does for us.
Good thing SMT wasn't here for the 50+ day coaching search in 2007! He would have aged 30 years in that time.

AGAIN For the love of Pete, you guys DO NOT want to go Big East!!!!!!!! Stay where you are and keep winning ball games! IMO SMU would be better suited to go Independant with the Notre Dame rule than join the Big Least. I mean Notre Dame is garbage pretty much, can't even win against us when they have us beaten, ever. SMU could play a similar sched to what they do now and add a little strength to it that way... Just be the Number 1 indy ranked high enough to qualify.Matter of fact I WISH you guys would do it. Notre Dame is so scared of the Big Ten and losing all their TV money... They play Big East other sports..... Please SMU go Indy with your excellent coach and stick it up Notre Dame's ............. And oh wait you guys are a SMALL CHRISTIAN SCHOOL like they ALWAYS CRY about being. While SMU BEGS to play Texas and Oklahoma or for that matter, Alabama and LSU or Michigan and ohio......... Hammer the Irish, Mustangs....... I'm pretty sure I'd cheer for ohio against them.(well maybe probably wouldn't watch)
I vote for the SMU to screw Notre Dame movement. Dang I hate them...... Anybody with me??????
I got SMU ranked 24 this week.... Welcome back ponies... (I got my own team at 18).

Let me emphasize this for you JUST A LITTLE... I'm gonna list some football programs and you tell me which one has a Top, Hall of famer producuing history.
Louisville
Rutgers
USF
Temple
Villanova
SMU
Does THAT look like a league you want to join???????
NOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!
For crap sakes DO NOT drink That Kool AId. Go Independant or stay where you are before that. My team has "only" won one National Championship since 1948.... Hell, Join the B1G, Notre Dame is Scared to because all small Christian schools like y'all and the frogs can't compete err wait ONLY the Irish use that excuse....... I KNOW you guys were once on top and all you want to be is back... 2 more years in the CUSA and everybody will see that you are. I already do and I'm glad to be on early... My goodness grab at the Brass ring.. You guy's are the freaking SMU Mustangs, you know one of the winningest College football programs ever!!!!!! The Big Least is TRASH!!!! in a year or 2 people will be after YOU. The B.E. AIN'T the Brass ring..... Y'all are one loss from being BCS crashers right now. in case you somehow forgot you have a GREAT season going. Win the rest of them and see what happens.

That is exactly my thoughts on it. If we continue to make the changes that need to be made, things will turn out fine.

maize'n'blue - there is a lot of common sense in your points & I hope our administration is considering just that. If anything, I believe that would really gel our base & put us on solid ground in the right direction. I think we would receive a lot of 'new' fans that ordinarily wouldn't follow us. David & Goliath (bcs-BS) thing.
Unfortunately, there has been none of that during any of this bcs-BS re-alignment the last 10 years.

Exactly. Conferences may shuffle but look around, none of these conferences are set in stone. Look at how everything was ten years ago, twenty years ago... SMU has made tremendous leaps in the last few years to become a serious football program. If we continue to win and continue grow a solid fan base, we will succeed. Look how fast we went from obscurity back to making news. The value of SMU Football should keep growing. It took ten years of success at TCU before people in FW started caring about TCU and high school kids to wear TCU apparel. SMU can do the same thing and faster. We have seen how other schools have done it, and how they succeeded in urban settings.
Not only that, we are making a name for ourselves as a premier academic university beyond sports. In a few years we should be the second highest ranked school behind Rice in Texas. TCU and Baylor are academic jokes compared to SMU. We should also be able to pass by Tulane (although their problems have my sympathy). The results of the current capital campaign will have tremendous effects on growing SMU as a premier university. Regaining a solid engineering program is probably the easiest example to point at as a sign of SMU's rapid improvement.
Sure a jump to a BCS conference would be great, but SMU is not hanging by a thread. We will grow to a value that cannot be ignored. As long as the main conferences don't foolishly bulk up to 16 ill-placed schools, plenty will be chasing after SMU come next TV contract. Support the school, go to games, and remember the sky is not falling.

Umm, does maisenblue know that our AD is a ND grad! Look, we are like the cougar with the hot body and a somewhat weary face. We may have to wait until last call to get asked, but if asked we will go to any conference that is BCS. That's where we are. We aren't the prom queen anymore. And we just have to wait and see if one of the other conferences gets drunk enough and/or desperate enough to ask us. One thing is for sure, if asked, the conference that gets us will have a great time.
