It really sounds like the Big East can collapse at any moment. I hope that the leadership there recognizes the money they are risking by not coming together and getting their collective [Gary Patterson] straight.

Even more dysfunctional than the Big XII

That was one of my favorite New Bohemians songs. Great jamming by the band.

http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/college/ ... L51LijVw1I"Sources told The Post the biggest problem facing the league right now is that there is not unanimous agreement on how to go forward. West Virginia is leading a contingent that wants the league to invite Boise State, but some schools are opposed to that idea."
"But there are some who want to bring in less-powerful opponents such as Houston and SMU. And though the $10 million fee for FBS members seems to have gained traction, Louisville and West Virginia, which have been rumored to have interest from the Big 12 and SEC, are hedging.
A Post source said Marinatto is to meet with Central Florida officials tomorrow. UCF, Air Force and Navy could be the first schools to receive invites.
Marinatto has not been given authority to extend invitations. He must get the authority of school presidents to do so, making for a cumbersome process. When the Pac-10 expanded to 12, commissioner Larry Scott was given full authority to act."

At least WVU seems to be willing to look at the conference now with Boise
Looking more and more like a purge of CUSA and MWC to start a new league

Less powerful teams? I think Houston would trounce every one of them this year except maybe WVU

realignment sucks, makes no sense, and the Big East was awful before defections. We have no business being in that league geographically, its gonna lose its AQ, and we're gonna get homeless. Grab Houston, hope Boise stays, and head MWC. Build an AQ, don't rely on an expiring one

It's been brought up before. But there is no precedent for removing AQ status from a conference. Much harder to become one than stay one, especially from a founding member. There is also this little thing where ESPN told the ACC what to do. Some may think the BE would have a major lawsuit if the BCS were to take away their AQ status because ESPN tampered with their conference. There was a pretty good article describing all of this, I'm too lazy to look it up but I posted the link earlier this week.
Also, I think as time drags on and no public decisions have been made the media and chat boards begin to think the worse case scenarios. Remember the B12 wasn't going to stay together and the BE was getting ready to pick up all the pieces from that conference and Iowa State, Baylor and Kansas State were going to be screwed out of being in an AQ conference. I don't see any of the major conference being blown up and not be in existence for the next few years. This round of realignment will not accomplish that feat. The next one might.
