The quotes about AFA and Boise staying come from MWC officials in regard to the conference call this morning and/o invovle legal posturing to avoid a tortious interfernce with a contract claim. Here are the facts 1) even if the BE only keeps its AQ status for the next 2 years thats two years where Boise can lose a game and still go to a BCS bowl, thats 2 years Boise can get BE tv money (plus a slice of the 15 mil in exit fees) 2) you go undefeated in an AQ conference you can get a number 1 ranking and/or play in the national championship game (if the chips fall right). Remember Boise has been undefeated twice and could not get into the NCG petersen is magnamous about this but I'm sure his fans aren't. 3) even if the BE falls apart you could always rejoin the super-MWC-CUSA (this is especially true for SMU and U of H who offer the jewels of the TV markets). 4) the big east with the new additions is probably looking at about 15 Mil per school from the next Tv deal what is that 12x what they get now?
Why would they stay in a conference that doesn't put them in a NCG, makes way less money, and in some ways with a tierd playoff system will be more difficult to win?

Could this just be posturing until official invites are made?
ding ding ding ding!

yep.
http://www.khou.com/sports/Statement-from-Houston-AD-Mack-Rhoades-on-Big-East-invite-131903058.htmlthis sounds exactly like what aggies were saying after the SEC got real about the situation.
"we're leaving to go to SEC". no invite yet. "we're happy in Big12". "no comment on anything". SEC invite comes. "yeah, we're out".

Boise appears to be a key to the westward movement along with AFA. If those 2 balk, who knows what happens?
I have visions of Big East football looking a lot like the original CUSA
Until the SEC selects their 14th member, still a lot of uncertainty in all of this

ESPN still running the lead story that Boise and Air Force are likely to decline and stay in the MWC and the merger.
I don't buy it. Why would Boise stay. Not nearly as good of a conference and they only have to travel in football. ESPN says AFA soured because Navy is in a holding pattern. But they want out of the MWC in all their other sports now anyway. Again, I don't buy it.

Any other outlets running with the story?

So now that we have the BE invite, does the SEC jump on us t secure the DFW market? Much like Big 12 jumped on tcu at the last minute when rumors broke that they were in serious talks with the SEC

Boise has to accept - they will basically be guaranteed BCS bowls for the next two years even if they slip up and go 11-1 or 10-2.

There is no way Boise turns this down unless they have an invite into the cartel from somewhere else. The CUSA/MWC merger can only garner a BCS bid if everyone stays, and even then the chances aren't great.
If Boise turns down an opportunity to be in a BCS conference and play a more challenging schedule--even if it is only marginally more challenging--then they can NEVER complain about being left out of a BCS bowl or not getting a chance to play for the title.

SMU and Houston to round out the Big XII would be a nice way for this to end
