Use part of the BCS money for marketing.
It will take a concerted effort from the school to make it happen.
Building crowds will be just as hard as getting into an AQ conference and will require the same commitment to make it happen.

Wow, what caused them to fall THAT FAR?

We could lay out the most well devised fool proof plan, and it would not matter. They'll nod and listen..then go back to doing what they've always done (which means they'll keep getting what they've gotten). Learned my lesson. SMU is going to have to fix this concern themselves.

Exactly, we need a damn budget to help fix our attendance woes. I'm hoping that this Big East deal will finally allow us to do that. Start inviting local football teams (little league, middle school, high school teams, whatever is legal of us to do). Invite those teams, build regional fandom, push the Mustangs brand on the airwaves. We just have to make people aware that A) we got a great brand to sell right now that will only get better, and B) it's affordable and easy to be a part of the Mustangs brand. If we can't successfully do that within 5-10 years, then I'll lose hope in the Dallas area ever substantially supporting SMU athletics. However, I seriously think there's a TON of hope, we just have to flex our monetary muscles to do that (at the moment we can't, but hopefully soon that can change).
It really doesn't help our cause out that the Rangers are playing in a game with World Series implications (and the Stars as well).
the school can't exactly give tickets to any high school team. NCAA requirements prevent that.

SMU needs to focus on what they CAN do not what they cannot.

That's why I said "whatever is legal of us to do." As soon as I typed highschool teams I though, hmm that doesn't sound legal whatsoever. But you can still attract younger teams, show them a good time, and they'll remember the name, especially if they put it on SportsCenter throughout the years and see SMU competing in the BCS.

it looked pretty bad on tv. i had 10 people over at my place to watch it here in DC, trying to recruit more t shirt fans....but everyone commented on the lack of attendance. I was ashamed. I come down for 1-2 games a year, try to make every close away game...but there is no excuse for students to leave when we have a good team and need the support.
Someone needs to call out the students and the folks that chill on the blvd all game long. I am [deleted] ashamed.

I talked to at least a dozen people that left at half time to go to the Rangers Game. No Dallas sports fan, t-shirt fan, chose SMU over the Rangers.
I know some pretty solid ponyfans that left too.

Announced attendance was only 22,932 and many of those left at half time. That is pitiful. The team deserves better than this. So what if it was hot. Come prepared.

left at half time?? It looked empty in 1st and snd quarters. Need an intervention or something for SMU community. We are finally good. We are going to an AQ. Get behind your [deleted] team, go to the game, support your team.
June Jones had to answer qs about it afte the game. It was noticed by the players.
GO TO THE [deleted] GAME!!! STAY TO WATCH IT. GO TO YOUR FRAT/SORO HOUSE AFTER THE GAME.

I have to pay over 2 grand for my girl and I to fly to Dallas, get a hotel, get tix, watch the game, spend the weekend, etc. And I still do it at least twice a year.
You people that live in dallas and don't attend games should punch yourself in the nuts, if you actually have any.
