Exactly. bball media day is tomorrow and this is an attempt to deflect expansion talk, and have the media focus on bball.

Yup, that's what they said at the start of the call: khairopoulos Kate Hairopoulos Marinatto: Says he's taking questions on Big East expansion today so Wednesday's basketball media day will focus on basketball.

The Big East problem has been and will be that they do not understand that nobody gives a [Gary Patterson] rip about college basketball, until March... This thinking has gotten them to where they are now...

To say no one cares about college bball until March is foolish. The entire east coast would disagree with you. Most of the current Big East and ACC schools have more people show up to midnight madness practice than show up to our important conference football games.

My guess is that when he called the press conference yesterday he intended to announce the schools they were inviting, but because of the NYT article on the imminent move of Missouri and the possible loss of other schools they decided to hold off and let the dust settle. This would be particularly prudent if BSU, AF, or Navy were wavering. They do not want the embarrassment of another TCU - school accepting and then changing it's mind. Now if at the end of the week Missouri announces it is staying in the BigUT then they will make the invites. On the other hand if Missouri leaves then they will wait until they see what the BigUT does. Which is OK for us on the very remote chance that we are invited to the Big UT.

You watch too much ESPN. They were never going to announce invites today. They will not announce them until they are accepted, which will probably be at the end of the week.

Then why is ESPN putting Big East BB on tv pracitcally every night of the week.

I really curious why you feel this way. I have yet to see any comments in any article regarding expansion that says anything about baseball or T&F. There are teams in big time conferences that don't have baseball (SEC is the only one that has all members playing baseball) and I am sure there are a few that don't have T&F. It seems to me that they are pretty irrelevant in all this. It seems what matters is media market and football with basketball just being a nice bonus.

Kate Hairopoulos No need for SMU fans to worry about getting an official bid from Big East. It's about making sure BE's plan - & Boise State - comes through.

More people care about football than basketball obviously. I'm not trying to argue that. I'm just saying that ESPN puts Big East basketball on TV every night so some people must care about it before march.
