lets be honest, we'll maybe bring 3000 to a drivable bowl. maybe 8-10k in dallas. no students will be there b/c they're home on break. and our 'marginal' alumni (the ones who stay on the blvd drinking beer to watch some other team on TV) will stay home b/c of a better game on in their opinion.
Hawaii bowl got us a LOT of attention for our program nationally b/c it was the ONLY game on that evening. the advertising impressions of the SMU brand approached 25million if i recall correctly.
does it suck that it's christmas eve - yes (but see my point above). does it suck that it's expensive to get to for fans - yes. but it's important to continue to grow the SMU brand on a national scale.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^This. The players have a choie between a cold overcast game at the cotton bowl or Amen Carter. Or a week in Hawaii???
I hope SMU can get the AQ competitive and btho florida state, apparently its their 30th consecutive bowl game.
If it indeed is going to be the Hawaii bowl, I hope its on Christmas Eve. I feel more people will be gather together at night in living room, and someone will mention if there is anything to watch. Hopefully they say football, but then again people do like to watch Christmas Vacation, etc.
I know people are grim on TicketCity and maybe I am wrong, but I feel we can pull at least 15k-20k, but then again I get haunted by the UCF game.
Someone posted that they didnt know the bowl name, Sheraton Hawaii Bowl. Also I think if the bowl game is between SMU and Hawaii, it should be mandatory that the payout doubles for both teams. Not this silly 750k (its only takes 7 of our boosters to match that)
Teams have to go to conference tie-in bowls unless they get picked for a bcs bowl which Houston is creeping into the picture for a bcs bowl, especially if TCU beats Boise. Until SMU has more of a fan following, especially those that travel to away games which I would estimate were maybe 1000 at A&M and 2-3000 at TCU then you choose the bowl that is best for the players, coaches, university publicity and prestige, payout and then fans in that order. Not to knock those few who are so passionate but there are just not enough of you at this time. Maybe SMU should be more selective in their admisions process by selecting prospective students who are more well-rounded and participate in many extracurricular activities and have spirit in their school rather than just academics alone with a propensity to imbibe in different spirits.

Definitely true there, it will be great for Big East if Boise can stay in, Houston continues to creep, and hopefully USM will get beaten to knock them out (no offense to them). Yeah I thought there were more at A&M, I was on the buses with One28 group, but I could be wrong. Yeah definitely get people to SMU that enjoy going to games. In my grad class, I asked the prof if we can combine our break times, and try to get out early enough to see the parade, and the rest of the grad students preferred to stay then entire 3 hours and 20 minutes... I mean I get its a grad program, but you think that the school could pressure profs to let people out early enough to see the freaking homecoming parade.

Most of professors could care less about the athletic program. After the DP many of them did not want to bring back football.

Most of them are bunch [deleted] bags, they like to think people have more interest in their classes than boulevarding and the game.
