For the record, I'm a "navy blue" guy, too.
They supposedly did a fan survey before switching to this bright, almost neon blue that's one of our "official" colors now. I wasn't asked to do the survey, but I don't think people had a bright, bright blue in mind when they responded in favor of royal blue. I bet they remember the darker shade of royal blue from the 1980s.
One other thing and I'll get off my soapbox: At last year's Homecoming, Jack Ingram wore one of the current blue jerseys. When it got soaked by the rain, it darkened to a much better shade of blue, more like what we've traditionally worn:
