You want to generate interest and boost attendance? Here's a four-step program:

1. Beat Pitt either decisively or in nail-biting last second fashion at the Compass Bowl;

2. BEAT TEXAS A&M AT FORD TO OPEN NEXT SEASON!!!!!!!;

3. Go on the road to Waco and beat the snot out of the (hopefully) RG3-less Bears;

and finally

4. BEAT TCU AT FORD!!!!!!!!

There's your interest right there. If we beat the Aggies the DMN will go bananas.

I would be happy with 3 out of 4. Anyone else?

Showing me on Ponyfans isn't the only place you need to show that fact..... Dutch was saying 10 to 17 bucks, for a D1 game, that's stealing on the fans part. That's MAC level prices. But you really only have to compete with a TV game, Texas is so big it's like the equal of Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky put together. Where say Eastern Michigan's yard is 7 miles from Michigan Stadium, TCU is your closest actual gameday, live football game competition, what 40 miles away? Do any NON TCU Alumni drive straight past you guys to go see the toads? (wow) I'm starting to hate them.... The second step to being a major program is drawing people that didn't attend the hallowed halls at SMU to show up. The first step is winning a lot and producing some star power... House that Doak built? That couldn't have been all alumni at the Cotton Bowl, I don't think. Doak was also a superstar in what at the time was the epitomy of the blue collar city, Detroit, Michigan. Dude's up there with Gordie Howe, Barry Sanders, Steve Yzerman, Kirk Gibson, Jack Morris, Trammel + Whitaker and Isaiah Thomas. Nobody will ever touch Bobby Layne though, he WAS Detroit. (and oddly enough he was from Highland Park just like his buddy Doak Walker.

I still don't understand why we don't give away tickets. Who cares if they count towards the official attendance? If we give away 1000 end zone tickets per game to local high school/middle school students and their families, it's still a positive. Some of them will have a great time and come back again with a paid ticket. Plus we do make money off of concessions and souvenirs they buy. Plus the team sees and hears 1000 more people in the stands. Why are we hung up on the fact that the NCAA won't count them? They don't count the empty seats either.

also NCAA prevents giving to HS students without major documentation requirements that can be costly.

Winning isn't going to pack the house by itself. We beat TCU on the road and 15K show up to watch us pound UCF in what was billed as a game matching potential conference champs.

I think so..... I was reviewing the 1901 Michigan Season and Michigan defeated Buffalo 128-0 in a contest... The guy that dug the hole (Michigan Stadium) and won the first Rose Bowl, Fielding Yost seemed to think so.Seriously what was Florida State Football before Bobby Bowden? They probably had an office in the back of a field house and some equipment. Miami emerged very recently as well. I mean we're talking CFB terms of recent. Winning pretty much sells, if you guys still totally sucked and wouldn't have won that Hawaii Bowl, I wouldn't have started following SMU. I wouldn't have. I thought you guys were cool with losing now.

why would anyone buy a ticket if they're giving them away free?

neat! we won one meaningful game! I know I was shocked that didn't instantly erase the last 25 years of no one giving a crap about one of the worst teams in the country.

You guys need 3 GREAT SEASONS..... Then the past can slip away into hell I KNOW you guys got screwed heavy, our hoops program suffered penalties half as bad and it took a decade for it to come back, well Tom Izzo isn't helping anything either. I remember being freaking furious about 9-3 football seasons. And I will be again. Right now I'm pretty happy with 10-2 in a crappy Big Ten and losing 2 of 4 road games, well I'm not happy about losing either of those games but hey they weren't in the hole that Yost dug, Crisler paid for, Canham carpeted and Schembechler, Moeler, Carr, Rodriguez and Hoke have filled up every saturday since 1975. When you feel that way, you are really, really, back and ticket sales probably won't be a problem. JMHO

I'm just a football fan y'all So I don't know how in the hell I could say have more patience. You shouldn't.

I'm not talking about anyone... I'm saying at schools. So for the first game, we give tickets to Plano schools. Next game, we give tickets to DISD schools. Next game, Irving, etc. Not just a free-for-all at the ticket window on gameday. Limit the number of freebies, and control the distribution.

a combination of winning, BE $ for marketing and time will lead to better attendance. IT WILL NOT HAPPEN OVER NIGHT. June is a fool if he thought that three 7-8 win seasons would change attendance problems.

June is a fool anyways and IMO your administration should hire more tutors, like he asked but NOT lower your standards. Let it be known that if you don't go to study table you WILL NOT play at SMU. I'm a fan of a team with that requirement.... Also SMU should require him to wear school colors. Furthermore, if he wants to BE just like everybody else you guys need to treat him like everybody elses's coach. There ain't no saints in this business. I mean he considered leaving you guys for F'in Maryland? Maryland?????? REALLY?????? I didn't know that and I lived in Md for 4 of the last 6 years except for 16 months of deployment. Pat Hill the original giant killer from Fresno State is available. June Jones, well I ain't no alum and I ain't got no say... And I am on purpose speaking terrible English right now is complete and total garbage. Put that SOB on a choke collar and YANK IT. Then if SMU wins 6 games this year UNLESS he flies right you should fire him. Straight up. He has delivered on only one promise, going back to Hawaii and that IS NOT Pasadena.
