Re: Increase attendance idea
I bought 10 tickets for that game and it didn't make a dent. Everyone is throwing around some pretty good ideas, but until the AD Dept. does something and this team starts winning on a consistent basis, keep looking forward to 12-15K.

You must have a ticket to the game to enjoy this event." Parents and school friends would buy some tickets and it would give the school some great recognition. I also like the idea of a rock concert or other event after the game to draw a younger diverse crowd. Nonetheless, trying ANYTHING is a step in the right direction.
We need ANY event we can find that would normally sell, ideally, 20000 tickets, for poor attendance games but even 5000-10000 for games that shouold have a decent crowd. Concerts. Celebrity garbage. Dirk & Cuban play beer pong with fans on the field. MMA fight. Kardashian taping. Political rally. Ladies from The Lodge put on a private show. ANYTHING. Look up anything coming to town in the fall and see if they'd be interested in a free venue.
Someone unconnected to SMU who's not going to games already probably will never just go to a game But if he is going to be at a game anyway, he might as well cheer. And that plants the seed of a new fan.

Also of note, when we actually advertised for the TCU game, we filled the stands with mostly SMU fans.

There is a gate on the west side of the stadium that allows reentry......

Re: Increase attendance idea
In a thread that touched on this subject earlier this fall, a student from Dallas Baptist University, stated he would like to see SMU reach out to the local universities that do not have a football team. He went on to state there were many students at DBU who were football fans but have no team to latch on to and support. He and a few of his friends did follow and cheer for SMU, I believe they had attended some games and SMU was their adopted football team.
I thought this was a tremendous ideal. You have DBU, UTA, UTD to name a few local schools that do not have football. Allow the students to buy student tickets and charge them a small fee to help pay for bus transportation to get them to the game and back. I do not know if this would be fesible for SMU but on paper it seems to make pretty good sense.

Tim McMurray is looking into joint marketing to other schools.
