SMU has an incredible history of National Championships, Heisman winners, and HOFers...If you are referring to the "rebuild" after the Death Penalty, then you are right and in fact FAU may have advantages such as lower academic requirements and a bad public perception that we had to overcome.
Wish the best to this young man if he wanted to stay home in Fla...but to comapre SMU and FAU is beyond ridiculous.

We all wish Burton the best. I'm sure they carefully considered their options. Just wish that if they were that concerned they should have let JJ know and have him go down to Florida. I bet he would have.
Go Mustangs!

I did not blame the decommits on ponyfans. I was merely pointing out, that more people know about this site, then what you think......And I was just throwing out what ifs. You are crazy to think that at some point the things you say will not have people thinking. If that is the case, then why say them?

Agreed. It's unfortunate not many people really know about our storied football past, from players such as Doak Walker, Don Meredith, Eric Dickerson, to our NCs. We've been on an uphill climb since the DP, but we will get to where we want to get. Our University is on solid footing and we will only get better. Not too many other universities are uniquely positioned like we are currently to continue to rise academically and in athletics. It's an exciting time, notwithstanding the latest football recruiting blips. Go Mustangs!

I think less people know about this site than you think (now we are neutral). But I don't think anything said on here caused Burton or any other recruit to commit else where. If we lost a recruit because of something said on a message board then we have so,e poor recruiters IMO.

JJ can still go down to Florida. Burton has not signed yet.

The biggest problem in the last month since Klemm left has been the lack of action to preserve the recruits committed by the present staff. In other words, " I made some calls and they are all still committed." So, you don't fly out to see them and I guess just assume no other schools will go after your recruits. If they do, they don't have a chance of getting them.... Wrong. Now they are making home visits and it may help influence some. At this point as for all the decommits, its a little to late to have a great influence with most of them. You've got to make sure your recruits continue to feel part of the program.

does any one else feel that JJ's inaction is probably because he doesn't plan on being here after next year and hence could care less about what happens to this class. Seems sort of obvious.
GO PONIES!!!

I think he is going to try to ride it out for the next 3 years to get his 6 million dollars. I do think he is doing this last minute dog and pony show of visits because everyone is criticizing his recruiting practices. But it might be too little too late. I don't think we will being going after players with multiple BCS offers now so I guess a this point we should just take what we get.

Some things never change with JJ. He pretty much quit recruiting for Hawaii a couple of years before his departure knowing he wasn't going to be around much longer. Beware if he starts hitting the JC's hard in attempt to go out with a big bang.

Thanks Warbow. I've been waiting for someone with Hawaii connections to chime in on the events that have transpired here over the last few months. I wanted to see if he did some of the same things at UH.
I think he loves to be the savior, but once there are expectations, JJ almost "checks out" and is already looking for the next reclaimation project. I just hope we don't take as big of a hit as you guys did when hhe left. I'd like a plan in place.

The best plan is to be proactive. We should fire him at the end of next season. He doesn't deserve any kind of buyout as he was recruiting for his' new job' while on our nickle and I would think that would suffice as a breach of contract. Plus the recruits that we have lost because of his actions.
GO PONIES!!!

He'll never be able to get JUCO kids in here in any great volume to go out with this "big bang" you suggest. His tenure is a lot more likely to end with a whimper on the recruiting trail (lagging behind other Texas schools in early offers to Texas recruits, competing with lesser programs for recruits, final recruiting class ranking in 70-100 range).
