If true, makes me wonder if June is so great at developing QB's, why are we losing them after short stints--or not reeling them in once committed at all? At one time Printz's dad on a board referred to deeper problems--hmmmm? And yes, I know he would not be considered "top talent". And yes, I know we need better to move on (AGREE bigtime) but what does all this say about our HC?

Remeber, UT put all their eggs with Gilbert, too.
And that didn't turn out so well.
Sounds like a full season in the doghouse was enough for Kyle...

Padron was a midlevel CUSA QB on a good day. He's not going to cut it anymore.
everything always sucks!!!

Quitter- let down his teammates and the university. How can anybody wish him well.

Those that are so quick to judge and call Kyle a quitter, are you calling Gilbert a quitter as well for leaving UT? Of course not. Obviously there is a lot more to this than most of us are aware of. Let's thank Kyle for what he was able to accomplish while on the hilltop and wish him well in his futures endeavors.

It says our HC has done a poor job of recruiting and developing talent at his position of expertise and it's the primary reason we're under .500 during his tenure with no conference titles and exactly 1 game out of 52 with high quality R&S execution. Some guru.

From Kate:
Kate Hairopoulos @khairopoulos
QB Kyle Padron has asked and been granted release from SMU. Benched in season-opener in 2011. Former UT QB Garrett Gilbert to SMU this fall. Padron, from Southlake Carroll, led SMU to Hawaii Bowl win in 2009. Good kid, good QB, struggled with consistency. SMU had wanted to...Use 2011 as his redshirt year after he suffered a back injury...would've been interesting to see battle vs. Gilbert as Padron knows offense.

Best of wishes to Kyle and his family. Never going to forget the epic performance he gave us in Hawaii.

Ouch! That really hurts! Best of luck to Kyle Padron. I really hope we are able to replace his production on the field this season. As a letterman, I do understand his desires to transfer as division I athletics can be pretty cutthroat, you just can't become emotional about it yourself. I just wish he had chosen otherwise. While I appreciate red pony for his passion for SMU athletics, sometimes I think he needs a muzzle as unless you are privy to the behind the scenes details you can't pass judgement. Giving money to the program is nothing like investing yourself in the day to day grind.

Exactly. A great kid and wish him all the best in the world. This happens in all programs as there IS only one QB that can play at a time, and now that we have signed several very talented HS QB's who are waiting in the wings, someone maybe had to go. Heard from several sources that Conner may have left the program and had to be talked into staying the course, and this news should keep him here. ( 4 full years from Conner after his redshirt year or maybe 1 or possibly 2 years left from Kyle would be the choice ) The competition should be very interesting this Spring and then in the Fall for the starting QB position.

The two things I will always remember about Kyle as SMU's QB are the way he shredded Nevada to give us our first bowl win in 24 years and the amount of time he spent talking, signing autographs and taking pictures with kids. First-class human being all the way.
Good luck, Kyle.

I don't understand why you all think he was so great. Yes, he made a huge difference in 2009 and the Hawaii Bowl. 2010 - not so great. 2012 wouldn't have been better. KP wasn't even much of a high school prospect (I know that he didn't play much). But at least GG has a ton of talent. So things aren't all that bad for 2012.
The last thing I want is another Armed Forces Bowl performance.

That's not exactly what happened at UT at all
