Two things:

1. JP got a VERY nice round of applause when introduced towards the end of the event.
2. Cogill's AZ joke in introducing JJ caught a lot of people off guard.

I couldn't read June's body language when asked if he would be here much longer.

I think a HEAD COACHES can only visit any one prospect during 1 day total which for example could be at school and then follow up at home later that nite. Also, your typical Coordinator isn't going to hit the trail that hard either
I posted the limitations in another thread but HC's can start visiting at the very end of November but there are various dead periods scattered from then up until signing day.

It was very clear that June had only seen the film on some of these guys a handful of times. He gives individual position coaches a lot of say in who they get. You can read what you will from that observation.

Did anybody ask how Leach managed to do to us what he did?

Or, how prior recruiting coordinator managed this from 247 sports?

National Recruiter of the Year nominees

Shane Beamer, Virginia Tech
Dameyune Craig, Florida State
Mike Denbrock, Notre Dame
Jeff Hafley, Rutgers
Clint Hurtt, Louisville
Adrian Klemm, UCLA
Lorenzo Ward, South Carolina
Chip West, Virginia

BCS Conference Recruiters of the Year

ACC: Chip West, Virginia
Big East: Jeff Hafley, Rutgers
Big Ten: Mike Vrabel, Ohio State
Big 12: Jay Norvell, Oklahoma
SEC: Jeremy Pruitt, Alabama
Pac 12: Adrian Klemm, UCLA

I can only surmise that all is well, mary poppins showed up for hand holding and singing, jones once again knew he was playing to a constituency that strives to reach and maintain mediocrity, is beyond delighted with same, and along with congrats from all, he probably got a standing O or two.

I've got to say, watching this year's highlight videos compared to last year's, this year's was more impressive. We are getting fast, explosive guys, most bigger than we've ever seen on the Hilltop. Does it suck seeing Marks, Hulick and Lewis elsewhere, sure, but this is an improvement overall. I too wished for more effort, but am pleased with who we got. Several big-time contributors here.

You can poo poo on Rivals all you want, but even if you take them out of the equation, this was a Phil Bennett-esque recruiting class. Very few guys with quality offers and several in which SMU was their only D1 offer. There are a few intriguing kids in this class but we need to really step it up next year. Phillips is a proven recruiter who wil get his opportunity to show it next year. God knows he will be asked to do the work of six.
Okay, that is absurd. This was not Phil Bennett-esque. Half of our recruiting class under Bennett had zero offers, not even to UNT, if you want to go that route. He picked up the unheard of two star players because he had to, not because he evaluated them in camps and decided he wanted them early on. He was working with massive restrictions as well. The only blind two stars he hit on were Aldrick and Sanders.

I was trying to make sense of Washington Cougars and leach... New coach, new system, new players in new system... maybe the fact that SMU and Jones system is heavy in quality receivers means watching and learning in practice instead of playing for a year or maybe two...

You heard it here Gang... I would say more than "potentially" unfair but kudo's for your understanding. Jones did say his sop is for the recruiters to make arrangements for the recruit and parents to meet at the school (where he has the product to show off) unless it is necessary that he commute. To me that is professional and full disclosure, it also shows personal interest without pressure.

On the other hand he deserved criticism for walking barefoot on the golf course at the Hawaii Open when in fact he should have been hitting the road recruiting.

Sounded to me like TCU coordinators busted their [deleted] on the road this year. I don't agree that coordinators generally don't work hard - just depends on who they are...

If this is so genius why don't you see Saban, Brown, Miles, Spurrier, Richt, Meyer, Kiffin, and so on so on doing it this way? How many kids just stop by with their parents in January before signing day? I am betting not a whole lot especially the ones that are further away. Go see them during the week, the weekend is for having kids in on officials. When you see 100 coaches doing it one way and ours doing it another it should make you scratch your head a little.

Very interesting Scout Video of Klemm discussing recruiting. I think he got a dig in. He said it was so refreshing to see how eager Mora was to recruit. He would spend 2-3 hours at a kids house answering all their question then wanting to head to the next kid. He got 4-5 home visits in a day. He contrasted that with other Head Coaches who only want to spend :30 minutes in a kid's home and the only reason they are doing it is because they think they are expected to. Klemm has known two college head coaches in his career. BTW Junseus is heading to Israel so I guess the 2013 Class is going to have to wait.

A man has to do what a man has to do... which means spending time at the Wailing Wall.

Hmmm, funny how June's story parallels Jonah's story. Maryland one year, ASU the next year, looking for a better deal but he keeps ending up right where God wanted him. You would think he would get the hint already.
