Charles Walker DT South Garland: I had heard about Walker from a couple of people including a colleague of mine who played defensive line in college, and now officiates high school football in the Metroplex. Walker is a senior who plays nose tackle for South Garland.
He is 6'4" and 270 lbs with probably the longest arms I have ever seen on a high school player. He wingspan has to be easily in excess of 70 inches. He has been timed in the 40 in an amazing 4.78 seconds.
Walker has drawn interest from some major FBS schools including Texas A&M. Arkansas, Oklahoma and TCU. He has a great frame and is obviously an elite athlete.
Walker does not dominate like you would expect to see from an athlete with that size and speed combination. He shows flashes of great play but has a long way to go before being consistent.
Walker obviously would need to redshirt in college to get stronger and learn how to play on every down. With his wingspan he will be a DE in college. He could be a great strong side DE or a 3-4 DE at a FBS school after a redshirt year.
Go to this link and e-mail Walker's info to every coach, or at least to Mason (DC) and Hill (d-line).

Alaric wrote:I watched South Garland play last night. Charles Walker is a specimen. Now up to 6'4", 280 and has supposedly ran a 4.78 at camps with a 28" vertical. Seems to take plays off but can really turn it on. Seemed more athletic than Rockwall Heath's two d line Aggie commits. Early interest from OK but now only an offer from Tx State. Strange. As tough as big athletic d lineman are to find, seems like he'd be a hot commodity. Academic problems?
Get him to send his tape to June, make sure the tape includes a segment where the kid pledges his undying allegiance to SMU.

No kidding. Commit to the school, not the coach. Also saw some stuff on orange bloods about him. Everyone's intrigued by him but the high majors are worried about a kid who's only played 1.5 years of football since junior high and shows some inconsistency. If I'm SMU, this is exactly the kind if kid I take a chance on...evidently Franchione's impressed. ill email the coaches

I think the biggest issue was his lack of a qualifying SAT. His offers have grown from Tx State only to the offers below which supposedly include an OK offer. Too bad we don't even seem to be on the radar of a local DT as hard as they are to find...
Colorado St. Offered
Houston Offered
Iowa St. Offered
LA Lafayette Offered
LSU Medium None
New Mexico Offered 12/14/2012
New Mexico St. Offered
North Texas Offered
Oklahoma Offered 01/11/2013 Jackie Shipp
Texas St. Offered None Mike Hudson

You think any basketball recruits are committing to SMU primarily?

Oh yea, I'm with you. I meant if he commits here, he better be committed to SMU because there's a good chance JJ bails or gets "retired" before his playing career is up.

Noticed that 2013 recruit Jarvis Baxter (WR) jumped to the #79 ranked recruit in the area, up from #97. that's a significant upgrade.

Did Baxter score high enough on his most recent SAT test to become eligible yet?

Just committed to Oklahoma - too bad we weren't showing him love while he was getting minimal interest from others
