He was fired. Not a resignation or a retirement. And it was quicklike. Turner isn't an idiot. You fire someone's sorry [deleted] when you have a near bulletproof cause for termination.

Star Telegram opines that Orsini, their words not mine, was fired because Ponies aren't keeping up with TCU and because we aren't in the Big 12.

That's funny.

Seriously, this all seems very very strange. The guy just makes one of the most noteworthy hires ever, helps get us into a BCS conference because of a guy he hired and NOW he gets canned? I have to speculate that Turner found out about something very specific and very shady ... only thing I can think of ...

good to see him get what he deserved. Not a first class AD. SMU can do better. Thanks Turner

Well, Mr. Orsini definatly made SMU relevant again, maybe not every household relevance but still relevant, and I thank him for that or else I would have never heard of SMU and would have never became a fan, hope SMU's prez Turner will continue allowing the Athletic Program grow as it brings a more national presence and helps recruit great students from all over. Wish him he best and hope the Athletic program does not once again become a joke of Div 1, that's UNT's job.

We can do better than Orsini. And now we have the opportunity. Turner made the right move - considering the "circumstances" that have been made public. Turner is the boss and he is not going anywhere. Only a pessimist sees this as a negative... this is a great opportunity for SMU athletics. I know we'll make the most of it. Orsini is gone... time to move on.

Does Orsini own a motorcycle?

Another possible reason. All our PF crew have been carping for years that our marketing is subpar. Perhaps, something in that area triggered this.

Curious timing, considering that the Athletic Forum event is tonight. It re-directs some of the focus that should be on the alumnis to be honored. I'll bet Orsini had a speech all prepared for tonight that he won't be giving.

RGT did Orsini a favor by terminating him. While I don't know SO personally, I could not put up with the yes men mentality and overall mediocre leadership at SMU. SO at least was out there trying to improve the dreadful conditions in the athletic office the last twenty years. Lousy hires in the athletic office were masked by the "death penalty" crutch whereas SMU leadership picked the wrong hires at the wrong time. And couldn't own up to it. Many on this Board think that a five or six win football season is progress and accept that. Against no name schools in a sub-standard conference. I don't, i've seen and witnessed greatness at SMU and as an alum, it pains me to say but the overall culture at SMU stinks. And for those who accept those lousy records as "making progress" or "we'll be good next year", or "wow, if we can just get in the Weedeater bowl" you suck too. You have been suckered in by the con job from the Administration. SMU perceives themselves to still be the elite school of the Metroplex and the State, but TCU and Baylor have passed them by. And i hate both of them. Those schools have it going on and SMU certainly isn't worth the tuition and bang for the buck students receive. Maybe in the past, but not now. JJ was a good hire at the time, but it has run its course. And i don't buy the BS that larry Brown wanted a "challenge" as a reason to come to SMU. it was the money. Past his prime, but the real story is that SMU couldn't even come close to hiring a solid young coach with a few skins on the wall. Says a lot about the program. Instead, we had to reach back in time and offer the moon to get a guy who should be on a boat fishing, enjoying his retirement. Basketball, once a solid sport is an afterthought.

RGT should go as well, he's a BS artist pure and simple. If he put as much effort into improving the quality of the staff, as he does seeking out a camera, SMU will be in a better place.

Thanks SO for the effort, look at it as a positive. Hopefully you can leverage into a winner school with a winner mentality, something SMU desperately lacks. RGT did you a favor, pure and simple.
