0 BCS offers YET. But June has shown that once he finds a kid, other schools do in fact jump in and offer. It gets to be a little tiring day in and day out to hear you lemmings tell us we're screwed and will never win another football game again based on a single recruiting class EIGHT MONTHS from signing day.

When you get ready to listen us lemmings will still be here. Until then you and the rest of the June slurpers have fun glorifying 1-AA recruits while our opponents continue to crush us on the recruiting trail.

I discount it because it is based purely on numbers at this point and not quality. Kids from Texas commit early while kids from other parts of the country do not. We will get passed by a lot of teams just like we did last year.

And when you're ready to listen, objective fans will still be here, too. June took over a program that hadn't been to a bowl in forever, spent one year cleaning house and implementing his program and has gone to three straight bowls in the three years since, all while playing recruiting afterthoughts like Zach Line, Taylor Reed, etc.

It might not be right to glorify 1-AA recruits (and personally, I don't see any coach at any school offering marginal guys this early), but it also is wrong to trash players you have never seen and know nothing about ... especially when they're coming to play for YOUR TEAM.

Play it down the middle. Wish the kids well, hope they develop and cheer them on.

We're 24-28 with June's afterthoughts. As long as he's our coach we'll be staring up at the better programs in the state. Though honestly it seems like a lot of fans are fine with being better than the bottom feeders if it means we can keep going to bowls no one cares about.

as I pointed out on Rivals in this the 21st Century its not early in the recruiting season-among BCS schools primarily recruiting Texas about 80% of the offers that are going to be made to the 2013 Class are already on the table

Yes many of the offers are already out there, but I don't believe that 80% of all the offers made by schools like Baylor, Tech, etc. have been made. They are still extending new offers and still evaluating kids.

Another way of saying it is that maybe that 80% of the kids have some sort of offer, but I doubt that schools other than Texas have concluded their evaluation and offer process. Maybe you are right, but I don't see how you can measure that.

If you have the time, see how many commits each Texas or Big 12 school has right now as compared to past years. It maybe just my imagination, but things seem to be moving more slowing here in Texas than in years past--it is becoming like the rest of the country. If you can believe the kids that are quoted on Rivals, almost all say that they are still being evaluated by the University of X or Y and that they expect an offer shortly.

Personally, the only explanation I have for UT's inability to put together an outstanding offensive line, is that they offer too early. Many of their commits "stop growing" as players and they miss on those that pass them by when they turn 18. I still have a problem attempting to evaluate kids that were only 16 during their junior football season. Remember, UT doesn't even wait for spring practice to begin/conclude. The kids still have a a great deal of matturing in front of them before they even reach a college campus. Most kids don't reach 18 until shortly before or after high school graduation.

Mexmustang, since Mac Brown has put more kids in the pros than in other coach over the past 10 years it might mean that it is bad coaching as opposed to not offering kids early. UT is also in the process of changing to a more SEC style offense so a transition period is happening at the moment IMO. UT's line is one of the biggest in college football so I think the stop growing thing is probably not totally accurate. But if you would rather have SMU recruits rather than UT's recruits be my guest. Just remember we now have a former UT QB that is suppose to lead the way for us this season.

If you think SMU can recruit UT style with ANY coach, I don't care who he is (without cheating which we diffidently do not what to do), you need to become a longhorn because its not happenin'. We are SMU - the guys that got the death penalty. We are still in C-USA. We have to win a lot more games to come close to UT in recruiting. However, nobody in Texas can recruit like UT. What SMU is becoming known for is putting 2 and 3 star players in the NFL. In fact, this year was the one that caught everyone's eye. If our coaches are good enough coaches to put them in the NFL then what could they do with a 4 or 5 star? Perhaps we will find out with Gilbert.

I think as the fb season progresses winning will make a difference whether we get any 4 and 5 stars. Nonetheless, we seem to be recruiting in TEXAS stronger than ever. We have some very good recruits. And, we still have shots at some awesome 4 and 5 stars. When its all over and done I think this class will be stronger than any we've seen in the past 25 years. If not, perhaps 'in the ball park' with the best. E J Holland had a good article (may already be referred to elsewhere) where he writes:

"All speculation aside, it is imperative for SMU to add major talent in the second half of this recruiting period in order to make a successful transition to a BCS conference. The pieces are in place, the under the radar prospects have committed, but now it’s up to the coaching staff to land some top tier talent."

If we are having a good year the above can happen. But, we are not UT. Here's a link to Holland's article:

I don't think anyone is expecting us to recruit like the horns. What I expect is for us to beat out the lower tier oos BCS that come in here and take kids right from under our noses. I want to beat the Kansas', k states, Iowa states, purdues, Arizonas, WSUs of the world with an occasional steal of a recruit from the Tech, aggy, frogs and bears.

This coaching staff hasn't shown they can land top-tier talent, Klemm was the only impact recruiter June has ever had and he's gone. We can go 13-0 and those 4 and 5 stars will commit elsewhere (most of them have committed already). This class will end up in the 80s surrounded by MAC and Sun Belt teams.

We aren't even recruiting on the level of CUSA peers UCF or Houston!

I don't know if you were referring to me or Mexmustang but I definitely don't think our classes are as talented as UT's. I agree that the last half of the class need to be stronger than the first half of the class if we intend to compete in the Big East.
