Both very good points. My take:

I'm not sure how the defensive front seven could be more aggressive. With Baylor running that fast-break offense the way it was, we barely got players on and off the field before the ball was snapped again. Our guys weren't attacking. They were trying to get lined up right and holding on. That's what a super-fast team can do. When you have a crazy-fast defense, they can hang with an offense like that. We have some speed, but not enough.

As for the deep plays on offense, Coach J said after the game that he called a lot of short passes to try to help get the ball out of GG's hands fast in order to help him get some completions and help the offensive line's confidence grow. He also acknowledged that the drawback with those plays is that getting a guy open downfield takes a few seconds, and GG never even had a few seconds to look for an open receiver.

According to your take on Baylor's offense they should not lose any games. GG had time to throw as the o line did a good job, so yes he did have a few seconds to look for an open receiver. Off take.

Passing Game Comments-he released the ball relatively quickly, moved well in the pocket to gain time(June Jones simply Coaches QBs not to scramble-they never do) and that I simply don't believe he should be blamed on that one Int. The ball was thrown low-but that's pretty well where it needs to be in traffic. He had a nice 3rd Down back shoulder throw too that the receiver simply never adjusted to. I also don't think some our receivers are competing for the ball. Now he didn't consistently get the ball down field and SMU's receivers didn't consistently make plays in space-but I was actually impressed with the hard hitting and physical Baylor Defensive Backfield. I'm not going to take a stance on Darius' fumble until I see a clear picture. At first I definitely thought it was a bad call but then kinda wondered if that ball was coming out. I do know that when 2 Baylor DBs lay a big lick on a small WR and a receivers drops the ball whether he was down or not then Baylor deserves some credit for creating their own luck. Hold the ball and there is no dispute. Good hard hitting football play by Baylor-failure to hold the ball by SMU WR-Big Play for Baylor
Clearly on TV a face mask tackle and very difficult to hold the ball.

Do you have a link to show where JJ said those comments? If not how do you know he said them?

That was the worst officiated game I have seen since that CUSA crew at TCU last season. The performance from the coaches on down was so bad that one needs to just move on. If your best offensive player causes a 14 to 28 point difference in the score in a span of the last part of the first half to the first part of the third quarter then you gotta write it off because that guy is gonna win you a bunch more games than not. Forget it, learn from it and change the attitute from "stealing a win on the road" to winning em all! The run and shoot has become an east-west offense instead of a north-south offense. You would have thought the goaline was on the sidelines! How many times did we throw deep and what was the success rate....1 pass interference, 2 tds and a long one to dj over the middle and 1 incompletion. Instead we throw 5 yard stops and outs which get our little guys hammered after the catch. JJ unpredictability has become so predictable. How about running on 3rd and 1 or 2 since we have the best bruising rb in college football and move the chains. No...we gotta throw 30 yard passes to get 3 or 4 yards. Not very high percentage. I was hoping Phillips would be a factor in the play-calling but looks the same as the last 4 years with the QB running to the sidelines. What is ironic is the reputation of JJ as an offensive mastermind....so far from the truth but give him credit otherwise for doing the things needed to get us to bowls.

Watching the Cowboys game last night, we saw what quality safety support looks like time and time again. Ours did not exist against BU. It has to get MUCH better immediately or we won't many games this year. Bottom line. Need head hunters who can run.

Re-watching the game, I have to applaud the Baylor defensive coaching. They played 8 back and 3 rush often and our Oline didn't hold blocks long enough or go get the linebackers quick enough when we ran the DELAY handoff to Zach. I figure every team we play will run that defense until we adapt. I do trust that our coaches can see that and plan accordingly and I don't want to ever hear the mantra - We do what we do - again! We'd better damn well do something different. On defense, I am baffled. Not aggressive with the front three. Too many screw ups in the back. Hope coach Mason has some answers to get to the QB or we are going to have some "groaner games". My 2$ worth.

Mason is trying to disguise glaring issues at one corner and safety by keeping other people back to compensate.
