On several plays I timed how long GG held the ball. It was almost 4.5 secs. all three times. Then, finally the line would break down. You can only block somebody so long. I suspect the issue is that the WR's just weren't getting open or else GG was only targeting certain ones.

The D did well for the first qtr. and was obviously starting to get gassed from being on the field so much. The issue here is that a) none of the backups were being rotated so that the players could get a brief rest. The other problem and probably a greater one is that the other team started making a lot of adjustments after seeing our schemes. Unfortunately our coaches never seem to make counter-adjustments. That was the same thing that happened last year and eventually puts a great deal of stress on our D..

I was at Baylor and A&M. At Baylor GG was accurate and quick. The receivers dropped pass after pass. DJ has been a huge disappointment this year. I remember Reinbold made a telling observation about DJ - "he can be as good as he wants." DJ does not appear to have the want this year. At A&M the receivers did not drop as many balls, but did not get open and were seldom in sync with GG.

All in all I generally agree with the OP's analysis. I don't believe that the pitiful performance I saw in these two games was because of the game day coaching or our schemes. The problem is for the past 5 years the coaches have not recruited the talent to even be competitive with BCS conference schools. That is why it is time for June to retire.

uh...red - not so sure about that comment on back ups - we were rotating d line every could of plays, and there were several LB's cycled in and out. I dont think we can do that in the D backfield since we are thin there.

gostangs- ok you could easily be correct. However, if that is the fact then the conditioning of our players must be terrible. To be totally gassed in 1-1 1/2 qtrs while being spelled frequently is not good.

This is what I've never understood whenever I hear that June's offense is supposed to get the ball out of the QB's hand quickly. It seems like the RnS, unlike the Air Raid, has more long-developing read routes down the field that requires the QB to hold on longer and leads to a lot coverage sacks. We've had this problem with Padron and McDermott too. When Hawaii played Georgia in the Sugar Bowl, they had the same problem. When the offense goes up against athletic DB's that can cover, it just takes too long to develop.

I always hear people say that it's supposed to be quick release and YAC, but that's not what my eyes see. Anyone with actual football knowledge have any thoughts?

I'm not claiming any football knowledge, but I will propose one weakness of the R&S is that without the ability to grind out a running game, it's going to put a lot of pressure on your D. In other words the most likely outcome of the R&S is scoring or turning the ball over in a comparatively short amount of time. So to have a "good" team with a R&S offense, you need to be deep on defense with kids who can run and run.

I think gthis is generally true, but I think our time of possession was actually equal or more in both the Baylor and A and M game. At least it was in both first halves of both games.

Stallion's right in his post. I remember the Hawaii Bowl (watched and rewatched many times) and those passes from Padron were far from perfect. The receivers fought for those catches. This group is not doing that.

Our Run and Shoot is not a quick pace hurry up offense. We seem to be coming to the line and snapping with less than 10 seconds left on the play clock. If it were more quick pace offense it would really tax the defense especially when not getting 1st downs.

Easy to fight for the ball when you have future NFL receivers vs one of the worst passing D's in football that year.

Maybe GG is tired from running back and forth to the sideline every play. Just ridiculous to see at this level.

dont know if it will last - but they didnt do that vs A&M. Knowing JJ - he will blame that for the loss and go back to it vs TCU

The RnS requires both the QB and the WR's to read the defense. The Aggies stacked up to require GG to throw and blitzed to required quick throws. Our WR's have to read that and adjust their routes. GG has to read that and throw where the WR's are supposed to be (not where they go). Part of this is lack of practice by GG with our wideouts to get in synch.
