Ok I think this is simple for old folk on here: 1) read slowly carefully 2) try to comprehend or ask questions don't be shy

High school you are kidding right? Sad people indeed...
Ha, I still qualify as a young alum
Same.

And, while we are on the subject, since when does old equate to poor grasp of the mechanics of our esteemed language? If anything, it's the opposite.

I think I'm going to write a letter to the Daily Campus bashing the waste of money SMU pours into the English Department that allows students like SMUAlumni11 to slide through with such poor communication skills

Haha you all are so sad. It's quite funny. You claim that my writing skills are unreadable yet you have yet to show sufficient evidence to prove this. I guess smu really did get fans outside of the college because unless you guys got in when grades were perfect attendance or you all are really from north Texas. Ah it all makes sense now. Man, I was worried for smu for a moment.

Lol well that "BS" got me a job right out of college. I sense some here were undeclared and ended up getting a joke of a degree in history

Of course you got a job right out of college. You went to SMU, not some backwater school, and most of us who went to SMU got a great education. Employers recognize that. I didn't have a problem finding a job out of school, even though I graduated at a time in which many of the people with which I went to high school that had gone to other universities were having a hard time finding work.

I bet you also put a lot more effort into making yourself understandable when you deal with your employer. You probably have some respect for them since they pay you. Outside of that sort of relationship, you don't have respect for anyone.

Your posting style, if your explanation/defense of it is in fact correct, suggest that you are self-absorbed and choose to not put forth any extra effort. Instead, you expect everyone else to put forth the effort.

It's just sad how low smu standards were back then to let some of these "should've been trade school" chumps in. I guess they can sweep that under the rug with the DP.

I do not mean to pile on, but I honestly assumed the same thing.

And while we're critiquing here, shouldn't it be "SMU Alumnus 11"??

Just kidding. Your posts amuse me.

My degree in Mechanical Engineering seems to be quite useful. I graduated in 2009, the single worst year for college graduates in recent memory (following the collapse of fall '08), but I got a job regardless.

Calallenstang, that's a fair statement. I can't really disagree with it. I think I said a while back or in another post that since I'm writing online, I put in very little effort. Also, I don't know anyone personally, so more of a reason not to care, since the probability of meeting anyone one here is less than 1%. I know you bumped it so I would respond, which I would have but I was in a bit of pickle with Austin's airport and getting into Dallas. (Which by the way, I hate the mayor of Austin for doing a freaking press conference, acl, and all the freakin UTers... Seriously just drive to Dallas... My reason I flew because it was company paid lol). Anyways I don't think we need to continue this forum. I will say in my final statement that most classes provide very little value to your after college life. They are typically conceptual based classes that have very little practicality, even admittedly my business school classes. I feel most people can do the same work as a new college grad if they worked at it. Like I learned in my (I believe) price theory economics class, education is just a signal/indicator. That diploma tells employers you know how to organize info, manage time, and have to ability to succeed in tough environments. Your individual classes mean little it's just the sum of them that gets to your end goal: a job.

Whitewiki, I know, as calallen pointed out that I come across as an [deleted], but I am glad you got a job especially during the time period. Out of most of the degrees (even my own), I do think engineering especially mechanical, electric, etc are practical degrees. My uncle got same degree (long time ago) and he lost his job during that time period but thankfully was able to find a new one.

SMU2007, thank you for your comment. When I go on to PF, that is usually the goal to make everyone and myself laugh when I post and the other to see if there are any developments going on currently (for me) the big east tv deal! And yes I fixed my name on [deleted], but didn't see the point changing my name on here when I'm refer to as "11" lol

Grant carter, you aren't the first to post something like that but those statements like, "not to pile on, but I thought the same thing" is like when people say, "no offense, but you are an idiot." Then, I'm going ok and I'm not suppose to take that as an offense?
