and also facing the longer range possibility of major conference alignments. Due to our possible poor performance and resulting lack of support we will likely be overlooked and relegated to a 'nothing' status in the final alignments.

and yet, despite what has been a less than stellar performance on the field and weak attendance/support for the program, SMU has moved from the WAC to CUSA to the BE which have all been "steps up". I'd say we've had some pretty good salesmen advocating our program. Color me an optimist, but I believe things will continue improving at SMU. Maybe not as quickly as many of us want, but that's the down side of today's "instant gratification" world we live in.
