If your favorite nfl team was going to get their franchise qb, the next Peyton manning, with the 1st pick of the draft, would you want them to lose a meaningless week 17 game to get that pick? Or would that make you a horrible fan?
we are assured of nothing with a loss this week. and it's midseason with a lot of football left to play and a lot of open possibilities, including backing into a title game. the logic doesn't hold.
My point is only that rooting for your team to lose under certain circumstances does not necessarily make you a horrible fan.
i disagree. i think there's a difference between openly rooting for this and secretly hoping for it. i think you probably realize this as well or else you wouldn't be seeking public support from others to justify the concept IMO.

Dutch: No shoes were thrown.
The shoes were used in a cleansing ritual. Filled with dirt and rain and left for those that need a shoe. Placed not thrown and cleansed of anger.
I hear it ain't healthy.
MENU! LOL

A few responses to Calallen's comments:
Lack of emphasis on recruiting in the post-Klemm era will hurt us going forward
Yes. Recruiting has been disappointing.
June's offensive system is not as successful as it once was because defenses are better prepared for spread attacks
We certainly haven’t produced as you’d expect a JJ offense to. Wonder how much a certain departed coach hurt in that arena and I wonder how much the Zach Line surprise at running back has to do with it. Zach has been an unexpected phenom
June has not adapted his offense enough to fit the talent he does have, and that has cost us some games
Not sure about that. Maybe
June recruited for ASU while under the employ of SMU, and I believe that is a terminable offense
Not an issue for me. He very reasonably thought he was gone
He presented outright lies to the Mustang Club immediately after the ASU debacle, and should have been fired for that
Please explain again. What did he lie about?
We have stalled our forward progress this year, and have actually taken a step backwards.
Ish. A team does not make progress every year. See what June did at Hawaii as an example. A losing year followed by an 11-3 year and then an appearance in the Sugar Bowl after that

I'll just take this one for now.
He said that he was never offered the ASU job. He said that you can't believe what you read on the internet. He said that Steinberg's blog was hacked and Steinberg's comments were really posted by someone else.

I'll take this one as well.
I could buy that if we had seen any progress since December 24, 2009, but we haven't. We've been stalled for three years.

The guy is a fraud. Plain and simple. Seeing him down on the field in his black moo-moo makes me want to vomit.

SORRY BUS, I cannot make it down tomorrow. Niki's mom has to go back to Omaha on an emergency and we are driving up early tomorrow morning I will tape the game and see it when I return. Sorry I will miss Larry brown's firs game also. Oh well. Have fun and enjoy the romp over USM.

Explain the difference to me between "openly rooting" and "secretly hoping"? This is a message board. I hope you can voice things that you are "secretly hoping". It'd be a different story if you were going to the game and aggressively cheering against SMU. Believe it or not, no matter how much fans do or don't want their team to win - they actually have no real impact on the outcome.
Not trying to strongly defend SMT's comments when I don't necessarily agree, but I just want both sides of the argument to be presented.

Openly rooting against SMU is not being a good fan, no matter how you spin it.

again, what does "openly rooting" entail? who cares if you make a comment on a message board. no impact on anything whatsoever.
