Re: For Those of You Worried About a New Head Coach
We should make the move, fire June and immediately announce a replacement. Wham-bam. Say we are thankful for the amazing progress, hard work but that it was clear a move needed to be made to keep the progress going into the Big East.
If June quits, he'll whine about how difficult it was and lack of fan support, blah-blah and cast a bad aura on our forth-coming coaching search. Have a guy lined up!

Kingsbury has done a great job at A&M, but running a team is different. It would be really risky to bring him on as a HC.
Dykes we probably can't compete for, but would be worth throwing money at.
Blankenship I think I would want to see for another year at Tulsa. That is his school, I think he is a risky play.

the problem is many people who think they are in the know are actually part of the casual public.couch 'em wrote:Any coach can take a 5 second look and see June's staff of dinosaurs and recruiting classes trending downward and see why June is/will eventually be out.
The casual public may not, but the casual public is wholly ignorant, otherwise they wouldn't be called "public".

Can you see any analogies with the Doh situation? Nice guy, big promises and some initial success, but no ability to recruit or elevate the program beyond a lower mid-level. LB should be our standard for coaching and recruiting. JJ is getting a huge salary, had the program heading in the right direction and after the ASU fiasco has essentially flopped his last 2 recruiting classes and things are going the wrong direction. Our inability to compete at the next level was clearly revealed this year when we were destroyed by bigger, stronger, more athletic and better coached programs.mustangxc wrote:Not sure if you are being serious or sarcastic, but that is genuinely my concern and the reason I do not see firing Jones as a no-brainer. You have to know your place in the college football world and SMU settled for far too long thus diluting our brand. At this point many longer see SMU for what it was at one point or what it can be and will think that we should appreciate the success Jones has brought us. Not saying we should not expect more, we definitely should. I am simply concerned about public perception in the coaching circles.

Blakenship will never leave Tulsa.
Hes gonna get a huge raise this year.

Trey was using the powers of Gamehendge to allow the show to continue, to give the band the strength it needed to help break through this barrier

Who wants him again?

too many really good coaches to consider blankenship. i.e. KK, Dykes, Tressel, etc.

I'm not against Petrino but doubt if he would pass muster with the admin. I would also say that we would need a huge buyout so that he couldn't bolt as soon as another offer came along.
