Did we have a shot at getting BCS bowl coach June Jones? No way.

Dykes will be coaching in the SEC next year. NOT whatever mess of a conference we end up in.

Wow...total brain meltdown. I think he is an ESPN talking head. I mean Chad Morris.

Realistically, Tony Franklin. Give him a $300,000-$500,000 contract and he'll bite.

Yep, Dykes is a stretch. Auburn is yet be seen (I think he holds on for another year), UT and Arkansas are open (As is UK, but I will get to that).

It looks like UT is going to move on the Ciny coach and even if they don't I doubt they go back to the La Tech well after Dooley. I know that seems silly, but the UT fanbase will meltdown if they do and that is something to consider. That leaves Arkansas. By all accounts they are trying to make a splash hire. Dykes is not a splash. So while he might get a look, he will be down their list I think.

For the sake of the discussion, let's say GC keeps his job at Auburn...that leaves UK. I honestly believe our job is a better job than UK. At least at SMU you have a chance to win and advance your career...UK is a dead end that leads to "unhirable" hell after your inevitable failure. The deck is stacked against you.

All of that being said, I agree. Dykes will probably land somewhere more desirable than SMU after this year...I do think Gary Andersen is in play and could do some good things here.

can you please point me in the direction of one of those coaches that has gone on to advance their career after SMU?

Nice thing about Klemm is that he would be a low salary as he hasn't done anything to show he deserves big money. Then again he hasn't done anything to show he could be the head coach of a football team either.

Exactly. Big difference between being a great recruiter and being the HC of a football team.

Not to say he could or could not. Some just need the opportunity. That is why I think Chad Morris could do a fine jib here if given the opportunity imo.

Cal just fired Jeff Tedford. He would be a nice fit here.

I don't think SMU would want some other school's retread fired coach. Plus, he does not have Texas ties.

86- agree. I also don't think he would be a good fit here.

quick- somebody call Leigh Steinberg. Cal is a lot closer to the islands than Dallas. Perfect fit- nobody would criticize him for not wearing socks- hell he could even wear sandals and get by with it.

Dykes could have been ours last year, not anymore. He's got the attention of the big boys, just scratch him off your lists you guys.
