Without buying, er, recruiting Vince Young, he doesn't sniff a title.
This is the first time I've ever heard someone accuse Brown of illegal recruitment of VY. Have some proof there, partner?
It's not Mack per se doing anything illegal - it is the whole culture down here. He doesn't need to be involved in anything unethical because the community does it for him and EVERYONE turns a blind eye if they know what is good for them. I have lived near campus for 20 years and every day I see UT athletes being treated like kings and living above the means you would expect of students in their situation.
All I'm saying is don't accuse the man of doing something like that unless you have done proof. You don't have to like him, but don't discredit the man's reputation. He's a great recruiter. Not a great coach. Not his fault UT overpays him by about $4 million per year.

TCU is having a down year at 7-4, with few quality wins. They have seem to be competitive every week in the new conference, no moral victories in Ft Worth. They expect to be better next year only osing 1 person off their two deep on defense and a handful on offense. Will be interesting to see who their starting QB is, could be another RS freshman if Matthews beats out current QB Boykin

But they draw more people to away games than SMU does to its home games and they arguably had more people at the SMU-TCU game this year.

TCU also has about 4 high 3 stars or 4 stars that sat out this year after transferring from BCS schools. Young team too.

It's simple. Tcu wins the big games they need to win to get noticed. We fold like a card table in big games and sh*t the bed vs. dramatically inferior teams. Frustrating.

UT is panicky. They are seeing it slip away in a manner that does not seem like a fluke or in any way temporary. A&M is now the flagship state football program and Sumlin could be there forever. If you are a young black athlete that thinks he has a pro career - who would you rather play for - Sumlin or washed up old happy talk guy Mack Brown? and dont even get me started on our collection of fossils.

I think aggie was brilliant (hard to beleive i can use those two words in the same sentence) to distance themselves. UT is just so machovilian that you cant stay close to them without ending up knifed in the alley at some point.
quite possibly one of the best, most astute refllections I have read here in some years. Nicely done.

wow - SMG that is total bs. we were the vast majority at our game in Dallas, and in fact i was surprised there were not more TCU people there.

and 7-4 is not a down year for TCU. It is the new normal - if not high water mark. Its just not that big a deal to beat UT anymore.

we travel well when there is a good reason. Compass bowl is a good example.

We had ATM and Baylor away games packed. But when you get blown out, it kind of puts a damper on attendance for teams like So Miss and Memphis. Teams no one in Twxas cares about.

We don't even travel well from Highland Park or the Kappa or Phi Delt house. Who cares if we sellout a minimum 2,000-3,000 visitors alottment-that's not traveling well. Minimum alottments are all you get when schools sell out their stadium. Not much to brag about. I'm pretty sure most of those empty seats were from the student alottment. We'll be lucky to have 150 students on a Saturday after Thanksgiving going for a 4th straight bowl game against the Conference favorite . Watch for the empty seats in the season ticket sections which is even more embarassing. You watch Thansgiving weekend games and show me an example of a BCS/BE level school whose seson ticket sections are less than half full.

Snore. Empty seats follow bad teams. We are a bad team. If we had somehow beaten baylor, or ATM we would not be having this discussion cause people would come to games, but our attendance suffers from losses and the fact that we play a cr-ppy CUSA schedule that no one cares about. It especially suffers when you can't beat Tulane or Rice.

Shocking how far Texas has fallen since their 2005 national championship. I never thought Mack Brown was that all-fired good as a football coach (pardon the trailor park phraseology), but his apologists could always point to his NC ring and the job he did at UNC in his final season to bolster their case.

A&M will not surpass Texas as the top dawg in Texas (sorry for offending you folks wearin' tasseled shoes), at least not in my lifetime. Sometimes they climb the ladder but they never stay on top for long. I don't know how they'll judge themselves now that they don't play Texas. They used to always gauge the state of Aggieland by the point margins of their losses/wins to the Longhorns.
