New Orleans is the #53 market in the US, so Tulane doesn't even have that going for them.

Like breaking off and forming their own conference.
Exactly. If they were concerned before the BE started inviting the western schools, you have to think this invite might push them over the edge.

Not surprised. New stadium, good coach, large metro area. But better add than Tulsa, Fresno, BYU, no! Wouldn't surprise me to see Fresno next, and BYU if NBE can get them. Aresco must be going for 16.

Yes, but now look at CUSA with ODU, Charottle, and UTSA. BE is still better but Tulane does not make a lot of since unless you are Memphis. BE commish has some spaining to so on this one.

"The reconfigured Big East also will include many schools who are currently or once played in Conference USA. East Carolina will join Big East as a football only member in 2014, sources told ESPN."

If the new BE contract is as paltry as I think it will be then that should be the breaking point. No money=no reason for the basketball-onlys to stay.

this is such a scam for big schools to reap the financial benefits of inflated expansion fees from smaller schools. Its approaching organized crime now. I've never seen anything like this. All these desperate schools are writing huge checks which are cashed by bigger schools who then leave the conference the next week. Ponzi scheme run by ESPN who has huge conflicts of interest. Just sell the NCAA to ESPN and let them run it

Tulane has ZERO commitment to competing at a high level.
They're entire athletic dept is a joke minus baseball (does Big East even have baseball?)
Does anyone care about college baseball?

No. That's the point. Their athletics are a joke.
This move boggles my mind. Desperation is a bizarre thing.

I had hopes that ACC and BE would merger, this proves that isn't going to happen.

This is bad but I would assume the other schools would give their ok before BE made invite.

I assume that there are more planned moves for BE. By itself, this is not net positive. I imagine that something else is in the works.
