His views are shared by other clueless outsiders and numerous battered wives that support SMU football.

You must've missed the Tulane game, the A&M game, the Baylor game. I know folks in Arkansas too. SMU is minor leagues, baby.
Yet you claim to be a "fan"?
mr. pony wrote:*JJ changed us from begging for a .500 season?
We were .500 in '06. JJ's best seasons here have been with Bennett's players.
How many bowls did Bennett reach with those players?
mr. pony wrote:*We still went to a bowl?
"Bowls" mean nothing anymore. Conference championships should be in the case by now.
There are two bowl championship trophies in the case now. If bowls mean nothing to you, please don't go, don't watch, and don't come on here to whine.
mr. pony wrote:*Less than a year ago this coach was untouchable?
Less than a year ago, this coach was out the door and reportedly recruiting players for ASU.
He was courted by a bigger BCS school who saw that he had won games at a school where many coaches had tried and failed. It is a part of the coaching business. Get over it and move on.
mr. pony wrote:Odd that you speak for all "folks outside of Texas."
And if JJ is underpaid, let him try to get hired in the Big 12.
Why? You're bent that he flirted with ASU, and now you're challenging him to get hired at a different BCS school? Makes no sense.
mr. pony wrote:JJ should be on the hot seat for his pitiful 4th and 5th years here. He's not because of our desperate rah-rahers.
Just sayin'.
No, he's not because he has done what four previous coaches -- including one Hall of Famer (Gregg) and one with major NFL experience (Rossley) -- couldn't do: win and reach bowl games. Nobody is satisfied with the record, including JJ, I expect. But while you blast the rah-rahers, you refuse to acknowledge that JJ has done some very good things, too.
mustangxc wrote:Moreover, June Jones has made SMU a much better job than it was when he got here. I am still upset about the way he handled the ASU fiasco, the losses to Tulane and Rice, and the disappointing recruiting, but lets give credit where it is due and not sound like a bunch of spoiled brats.
Fair on the credit, and long overdue on the idea that we need to stop sounding like spoiled brats.
DickerJames wrote:Several on this board need to get over the butt hurt of the ASU debacle. All of the b*thching and moaning is tiresome.
Amen. You're right on.
Don't compare what the four previous coaches had to deal with with what JJ was given when he arrived. Plus, as I've said, Cavan wasn't handed a bowl for 6 wins in '97, nor Bennett in '06. JJ has UNDER-achieved with what he was given.

But, hey, knock yerselves out, guys. We all need heroes.

I gave him a second chance after asu, it was this season. Other than the win over Tulsa he did nothing to impress me or win me over. Our offense is still terrible which he is completely in charge of. They come out looking completely flat and unprepared every time we play a big game. We have still only beaten 5 teams with winning records in 5 years. That's one a year for all the liberal arts majors. He is beating up on crappy teams just like he did at Hawaii. Forgive me but I cannot see how he is supposed to get us where we want to go if he cannot beat good teams. Also his recruiting is terrible.

The only reason I keep it amicable with you is that you made the greatest block in SMU history, most likely the greatest block in SWC history.

Had JJ not been recruiting for ASU while still at SMU the fan base would have given him a lot more grace that what he is getting now. When someone shoves your face in them mud you gen really don't just turn around and sing Kumbayah. When you find out what some thinks of you then you react accordingly one way or the other.

Our administration did not react at the appropriate time so move on.

No they did not. But we still know what JJ thinks of SMU. You need to face reality.

I agree, and the highlighted portion is what pisses me off the most. There are so many examples of it. At Southern Miss last year. At Tulsa last year. Home against Houston two years ago. Many more I'm not thinking of off the top of my head.

And the worst part about it is that when JJ's one actual, heart-of-hearts goal -- the Hawaii trip -- is threatened, he and his staff did appear to prepare and motivate the team against Tulsa last week. Shows what they are capable of if there were actual effort applied to other games.

I think everyone that is ranting about June and wants him fired needs to face the reality that its not going to happen. He didn't get fired after the ASU debacle, so he is CERTAINLY not going to get fired for a disappointing season that still ends with a bowl game.

Everyone needs to chill and let this thing play itself out. The fire June posts are meaningless.

Meaningless until people no longer buy season tickets and donate to the MC or the university. RGT only cares about $$$- you just have to wonder how painful we have to make it until he gets it.

Like most journalists, the man has no business sense. Fire June. And, for those who say our thoughts are pointless, nonsense. All of our comments will have an impact if you contact Rick Hart.

In the interim, I only hope that when I go out in this life I do so in the stands watching the little pony run across the field and hearing the Mustang Band play Peruna...

Come or go, the coaches are only here temporarily, but the traditions will always live on.

Some day June Jones will leave.

Hubba Hubba...
