I'm not sure Tech could afford Briles...he signed an extension last week that gives him $3.5M/year with a $10M buyout. He also told Tech no when they hired Tubbs.

Many of the big Tech power players are in the oil and gas industry, they could afford it if they are willing to put up that kind of money. It will not happen, the reason these guys have so much money is they don't spend it.

Briles graduated from Tech? I thought he just coached out there. I know his parents actually were killed in an automobile accident while driving to Cotton Bowl for SMU game in what I thought was his Senior year. He fits Tech pretty well. I bet he stays in Waco

He transferred up to Tech after his parents were killed.

I lived 2 years in 915/806 land. I'll admit there is something to spending time there. The people are good.

I don't believe that Cal contract has been signed yet--for a boy from Lubbock and Midland, Cal may not look so good anymore.

It seems to me that it would be a lateral move. I don't know anything about his personal life but considerations re wife and kids might tip the balance one way or the other in a case like this.

Assuming Tech offers Dykes the job, If he leaves Cal after agreeing to be the coach for Tech it will be fun listening to the yahoos in Berkley screaming bloody murder.

i think he sticks with Cal. Better career spot - plus he can win in the pac at cal and not sure he can at Tech in the big 12
