5 wins with the new bowl eligible system should be enough to keep JJ around for another year. JJ will have his arguments ready for a 4 or 5 win season. Could be a slow painful downhill path for SMU.

I'm looking at 3-4 wins-and I think that's a lot more realistic than some of the fantastic justifications and scenarios listed above. I picked 7 wins this year

5 wins only gets us bowl eligible in an extreme tiebreaker scenario

In no scenario will we go to a bowl with 5 wins. I don't care what that article says. Bowls are all about who travels.

I don't think people realize how talented the current Big East teams are. USF, Temple, Uconn will not be cupcakes at all.
I see Memphis as a probable win. I see toss ups for UH, SDSU, Temple, Uconn.
UCF, Baylor, TAMU handled us this year.
Boise, TAMU, Baylor, Tech, TCU, USF are all likely losses IMHO (although with the TCU rivalry game, I will admit anything is possible).
If we go 0-4 in OOC, we are already in a big hole once conference play starts. If are to get to 6 wins, we will have to upset some folks. Totally possible if GG matures in the offense and we plug people in on D.
Will be fun to watch.

And the teams that benefitted from waivers had 6 wins but were forced to play in championship games that they were way outgunned in because of ineligible teams.

Since you are predicting 3 wins then I am sure 4 or 5 wins will be a successful season then.

I think that 3 wins would mean the young OL aren't playing well, the receivers are still a problem, GG doesn't progress, and the backup QBs fail.
If that happens, and the offense struggles that much, there is no way Jones is back for another season. 6-6 is a reasonable expectation to hold the staff accountable to.
And yes, I understand that 6 wins against the teams next year would have meant 9 this season

.

Two northeast teams come to Dallas. Would have preferred one of those games be up there for us northeast fans

Not really and nobody has said that because you have what should be 3 wins given next year. That is Memphis (low talent level), Temple (new coach), Houston (not a very good coach). 6 or 7 wins are very possible. I guess you are inferring that so if June gets 4 or 5 wins it would have been like getting 7 or 8 wins in this year's CUSA thus making June look successful. If so poor defense strategy. SMH.

Well this schedule is the brightest thing in the darkest of nights for this fan. I'm so glad we get to go to San Diego. Has to be one of my favorite/most relaxing places. It's also the only tolerable metro area. Also this schedule like many of you have said will really test whether or not being in the best possible non-AQ conference out there will bring to the stadium. Sadly because of our performance the past couple years I'm guessing that will hurt it significantly. I'm hoping that the big east holds strong.

I am with Stallion on this one. Three to four wins maximum. Our lack of talent and depth at many positions will be the difference. GG will need to be spectacular and we will need to find some receivers who can catch for that to happen. Next year should have been our best in terms of talent, depth and experience, but this is not how things are turning out.

Plus, June will not have an incentive to coach the team up as our usual season goal of the Hawaii Bowl will be unavailable next year.
