Honestly, the talent from our best recruiting years is starting to come of age so we should be ok the next 2-3 years. It is the following 2 that are a bigger cause for concern based on last years class and this years class.

In another post I stated that we have the best talent at SMU since 1986.

JJ could do more but I have to admit that the proof is in the pudding. 4 bowl games and three spectacular wins.
Thank you to JJ and the staff ( Mr. Mason )

Con sis ten cy
Mickey D's serves a bad burger but it is the same everytime.

We should have been 9-3 and ended at 10 and 3.

not so sure we have better talent than say in 2011 in the Junior and Senior classes- I said I think we've got some defensive players sitting on the bench who haven't played because we had some good starters in last 2 Senior classes. Kind of doubt they will outperform Thompson, Hunt, Frazier, Reed, Davis, Moore and Crawford

Do you think it is worse or about the same?

Agree. SMU can get pretty much who they want admitted. Keep them in school might be another argument.
Here's a few names to get the ball rolling:
Darryl Jackson
Davon Moreland
Jeremy Hall
Gabriel Marks
Beck Coulter

Who else? Someone with a better memory chime in.

Gabriel Marks was not an academic casualty, he was a result of the ASU fiasco.

Beck Coulter was a non-qualifier under NCAA rules who went to 2 separate JUCOs and apparently never got a Division 1A scholarship.
Darryl Jackson was offered the exact same deal by SMU as he got from UCLA. He went to JUCO for a semester taking 2 courses in the hopes of being admitted at midterm-changed his commitment to Oregon St. Never played a down and quit team due to recurrent high school injury
Jeremy Hall was given opportunity to enroll at SMU with 2 classes in JUCO. He ended up signing with a non-Division 1A team at the time UTSA-last time I looked he had never played substantial minutes-in fact he was no longer on roster.
Devon Moreland was a 2 time NCAA non-qualifier whose name has dropped off thne internet. Last time I heard UNLV turned him down about a year ago. I doubt he is playing football
Gabriel Marks simply decommitted-I know of no published source claiming he was an academic borderline recruit. He was fully qualified as Washington St this year

Not one of the many academically borderline recruits that June has signed over the last 5 years or that have been denied admission to SMU has ever started a game or done jack squat in Division !A football. Poor June-quit making excuses. He loses 10 times more recruits because he sits on his [deleted] during recruiting season

Last I am able to find is that he was going to someplace called Eastern Arizona College. Either that or Trinity Valley JC. Dates on the www aren't real clear and are conflicting. Still, the point is made that we can't, in fact, admit anyone we want.

I agree with you that we don't necessarily want kids who don't have a legit shot to be able to cut it at SMU academically, because that won't help us in the long run.

But if you recall, we lost our best player for the 2010 season because he didn't get the correct information from his advisor and therefore didn't take the right combination of classes to make sufficient progress toward his degree even though he had the grades. And that same kind of BS continues to this very day! That's just an example of the kind of nonsense that I just don't see happening at a UT or TCU. This is the kind of BS a head coach shouldn't have to deal with.

Beck Coulter was a Polynesian who came from rudimentary school system. Yes last time I heard from him he was at Western Arizona and then nobody signed him last year when his JUCO class should have graduated. Not a good sign for reportedly a superstar athlete. Hey NCAA rules are NCAA rules-you don't qualify you ain't getting into a school like SMU that costs $50,000 a year. Citing kids who DIDN'T QUALIFY under NCAA rules as evidence that SMU has unfair admission standards-WTF?

PerunaPunch, please be aware that there is such a thing as the NCAA clearinghouse. The athletes you complain about SMU not admitting are the athletes that are not eligible at any NCAA university by NCAA mandate. That is not limited to SMU, it applies to all the schools we are competing with. If a kid manages to be eligible according to NCAA standards then there is no barrier to that kid being admitted at SMU. You cannot blame this staffs inability to recruit on the administration. That is one thing that falls entirely on this staff. Keeping them eligible might be more difficult at SMU than other universities, but you have to maintain the integrity of an SMU degree. Some kids have no business at any university, much less a school like SMU.

We can basically admit anyone who passes the NCAA clearinghouse. June has stated publicly the problem is not getting them in but the problem is keeping them eligible.

"We have a lot of issues here that are different from most schools,'' Jones said. "It's not so much getting players (into school) it's keeping them in that has been the challenge.''

Again, the issue next year will be how did we develop the players we have. The Big East has crumbled so the talent we have is no better or worse than anyone else who is staying but the development of those players will be the telling part.

To be clear, I wasn't commenting on whose fault it was, just that it is clear we lost a lot of receivers

When you look at who we recruited, there was a gap in talent at ol and a gap in players at wr.

As I have stated before, I think there is a reason the original ol coach was let go

And that we let wr coach go last year.

I don't think it is a coincidence they are our two weakest positions.

Thankfully, klemm's guys should be ready to roll next season, so hopefully that helps there.

We do have some young talent at wr but who knows if it will be ready yet.

We graduate a lot of good players, but the players who will play for them were significant upgrades in recruits. It really isn't even close. From offers and ratings through the services it doesn't compare.

Moore was great. Crawford was great. Jr Richardson was higher regarded than both and will be better then both when he graduates. The same can be said at linebacker and d line

The reasons the OL and WR coaches are no longer here has nothing, absolutely nothing to do with coaching or recruiting skills. Nothing.
