What about Northwestern?
Northwestern was a founding member of the Big 10, no private schools have been invited to the Big 10 in the 100+ years since.
They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security
Here's another twist. Mark Cuban has said that the rising cost of going to college is making it less attractive and he feels that the number of said institutions will dwindle (my words not his). If he is correct that's the curve we need to stay ahead of. SMU needs to stay attractive enough to keep the doors open. Perhaps we will be in a better league because someone else had theirs closed.
Boise state is a bunch of jackasses they now can claim they want mediocrity. Well, what the ______ do we do now. Going to CUSA is horrible idea. Going MWC (not even enough room) would be stupid. Staying in nBE could be costly but better for future. Well this bowl win did absolutely nothing for us other than show MWC isnt the answer.
I've always thought that any school that makes a BCS game should take 50% of that revenue and share the other 50% with it's conference mates. Incentive compensation is not a bad thing. Whatever is left of the Big East should implement a similar policy as incentive for schools to invest in their football programs

What does the bowl win have to do with it?
The reason I'm saying the bowl win did nothing is because people were saying "oh the exposure will give us positive attention" when in reality it gave us nothing. That's all.

Will it change our national perception? no. Should it help with the guys we are recruiting? yes. The caveat being that our coaches actually recruit.
Seriously, how many bowl games truly change national perception? I honestly don't think Tulsa's win yesterday was that impactful. Sure it helps with the recruits they are going after, but people who did not know about Tulsa probably still do not know about Tulsa.
I understand that recruiting might see a little bump at least among curious 3 stars. However, I think recruits are mainly paying attention to the death of the nBE, noticing no more conference championship, seeing our best opponents in the conference are mainly former cusa teams, and finally noticing no tv contract to get their exposure and sprinkle our small stadium gets half capacity at best.
We will be in a slightly better conference than the current CUSA so to me it is not what we want, but at least slightly better in football and better in basketball.
Sorry Xc didn't see your second paragraph in the previous comment. I think Tulsa beating Iowa st. gives them a good rep if someone wants a team in their conference that's competitive. Tulsa's thorn is its media market standing. I'm glad we are out of super cupcake USA, it just sucks that Aresco couldn't figure out an answer. Might as well fire him, accept any contract that's above MWC and we score a moral victory.
