I personally want to keep mason at all costs, he continues to impress with our talent level and the kids love him. I think he's well deserving to be the HC in waiting

Just a generic statement. Other than maybe ponysnob, that 11 is the biggest downer I've ever known.

There is no one on this staff that isn't replaceable. Mason has done a good job, but, cmon, if he leaves, that's a sign of progress. Hire (a big leap for June) a solid replacement who can recruit and keep moving.

Have you considered an antidepressant? All will be ok. I promise.
No anti depressant will work when we have been given perpetually bad news. The only good news is that it's just football and not life. The big east is well... dead (if it wasn't already). We might as well get Tulsa to replace since they whooped Iowa st, heck maybe add in rice to replace sdsu

I really hope that we don't lose Mason. IIRC last year he said that he and his family really liked Dallas and that his daughter did not want to lose her friends here. Makes one wonder what has changed.
A conspiracy theory- Maybe Mason is being pushed out by JJ. It seems strange that Mason would be so public about wanting to move up. He also is not one of the 'jj silver haired crowd' and was not one of jj's top choices when jj came to SMU. JMHO

Really incredible for him to come out and take subtle digs at the run 'n shoot. Maybe he's been trying to get JJ to change and JJ's asked him to start looking for a new job?

Mason was hired by June as June had the most difficulty with Mason's defense.

Mason's comments regarding the Pistol, was playing up to the Nevada football contingency, not some knock on June--it was developed there and needed to pay homage to it and demonstrate his loyalty to the old coach and AD--nothing more.

Our two young coaching "studs" were given their opportunities by June. They didn't reward loyalty and were dismissed with "cause".

Mason makes about $225,000 here at SMU. What does Phil make at Baylor? Who would you rather have as defensive coordinator? Demand our "yes man" AD that we raise his salary to the level of a BCS coordinator. Who are you going to replace Mason with at that current salary level? No one worth a damn!

No worries with Mason. No one is hot after him for a BCS DC job. We are fine. If Nevada offers, which I doubt they will, but if they did and he wants a HC job he is gone anyway. McMackin would be a good DC for SMU imo.

If he got a head coach job, he could afford to send his daughter to SMU for the rest of her degree, so she wouldn't lose her friendships there. But I agree with Mexmustang, that he was playing to the Nevada media and perhaps talking through the media to the Nevada AD. No fault there -- if you see a job that offers certain things (i.e. a major raise, better title, etc.), you explore the possibility. No way JJ is running Mason off. He knows how good Mason is. If the salary Mexmustang reported is accurate, I'd say double it, if necessary, to keep him.

Yeah but that win against Fresno state was so minuscule compare to all the crap we have been given. Next thing you know Aresco makes a deal with MWC for a 2 mil tv deal for merger of 20 teams...

if June's offense having trouble with a guy's defense is what gets you hired we have plenty of options! :: rimshot::

Your problem is that you assume that nBE or MWC is our endgame. It isn't.
