Do we know for sure that it was smu's decision?
Baylor wanted out too. They had nothing to gain with a win and a whole lot to lose if we somehow snuck up on them.

I went to that game in 2006?...where Arkansas St blew us out in Jonesboro. Just another long depressing trip. You're right about Montana St., they will be tough and see SMU as their Super Bowl.
While I think it stinks to lose a high profile home game, I think losing the ATM game was Plan A but the folks in College Station didn't play ball. If Baylor want out, they'll get out of it. SMU does not have the stature to dictate how these things go.
I will say that I voiced my displeasure to the athletic dept about the misleading "same price for season tix" and that this rumored change will effect the attractiveness of our home slate but personally I am ok with one game in OOC being 1AA, and at least it is an exciting 1AA team by the sounds of it and not jist SHSU or SFA again.
Pure speculation on my part … but I would think that if JJ was looking to ease the OCS, it would be A&M and not Baylor. We have a better chance of being competitive with Baylor next season, and it’s a home game that should result in a good home crowd and recruiting atmosphere. Unfortunately, I believe A&M will be another hard lesson … plus on the road in front 85,000+. A&M will be just as tough to deal with next season … FOR EVERYONE.
I’m more inclined to think Baylor had more input on the change then SMU, I’m sure we were willing to accommodate also. JJ did say we need to lighten the OCS to build "MO" and success … every program does it … and replacing one game is not tucking your tail. Baylor/A&M, TT, TCU and M-State is hardly a cup cake OCS, and with our BE sch, next year is VERY legite. I believe TCU opened with Grambling State last year.

SHSU made the 1-AA title game the last 2 years and is only 2 and half hours away. It would make a lot more sense to play them than to play some team from 1500 miles away.
They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security

I think last years SHSU team might have beat SMU.
I agree, they put up a much better fight against Baylor and A&M than we did.

Say we play Montana State and win. Will we hold a parade if we're the state champ of Montana? On the other hand, it is perhaps more likely to be reported on the East Coast if we loose.

Hopefully JJ won't have it circled as a loss...........

I am not saying that Montana St. is a better team, just that it is nice to have a change. I have no problem with this.
and all of those last minute patsy games were scheduled at the last minute when teams like Tech (2 years in a row) and Baylor were attempting to duck TCU. Last year TCU had to reschedule because of moving to Big 12. TCU damn sure didn't drop any Texas BCS school to duck anybody and if you think they did-you don't know what you're talking about because I followed this pretty damn close. TCU has been ADDING last minute national spotlight games in recent years like Clemson, BYU, Oregon St and LSU
