Suan will replace palcic ill bet
Re: Hal Mumme to SMU?
I was wondering that, because he did a great job with the OL before the Compass Bowl last year, but if so, who coaches RBs? Mumme is a head coach/OC kind of guy. Those guys have to have a great knowledge of the OL, right? Maybe he could work with the big guys.

Comedy gold on Wikipedia.
I'm going to start adding that to other people's pages. "Tommy Lee Jones (born September 15, 1946) is an American actor and film director and currently does not serve as the offensive coordinator for the James Madison Dukes"
Hal Clay Mumme (born March 29, 1952) is an American college football coach and currently does not serve as the offensive coordinator for the James Madison Dukes.[1]

Thanks for your work with the Ponies, Coach. Enjoy your retirement.
He didn't do that great of a job and is probably why he is being retired after one year. Hopefully they will get a better O line coach.
Also, I do not believe Mumme is coming in as an OC like some would have hoped.

Classic June Jones geezer swap.

Are you refering to when JJ retires the coaching staff average age will stay the same.

It's hard to believe the Steelers keep that LeBeau geezer around, huh? This age chatter is silly. Some older guys can coach just fine (LeBeau, Landry, Vermiel, Snyder, etc.), and there's a long list of young, energetic guys -- even young Texans! -- who can't coach to save their lives. Coach Palcic did a great job with limited available talent.

Asked about reports on Friday saying Mumme was being hired as offensive coordinator, Jones said, “It’s accurate we’re going to talk but the coordinator thing is not.’’ Jones said he will remain the primary offensive coordinator and will continue to call plays.
June is cornering the market on sixtysomething offensive consultants.

Get off the man's jock and move on. He was probably asked to retire being he was here just one year. Also, we are talking college not pros. You can have an old guy in pros forever because they do not have to coach and recruit. I sure you can also find a long list of you energetic guys --- even young Texans who can coach and recruit.

That would seem to be the case. Did Mumme have some recruiting violations at UK?

"Old geezers" is a very relative term. All these coaches are younger than me and I know that I am still young enough to be able to coach if that were my profession. Now recruiting is different and I would appreciate some younger energy in that aspect. But Mumme could still bring something to the table.
I wonder what all the youngsters on this board are going to say when they pass 50. I guess they will just all fade away quietly.

All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand

Here's a little insight into Mumme's scandal-ridden tenure at UK. Didn't get hit with any personal sanctions but at best he was ignorant of the shady recruiting practices of his assistants.

Re: Hal Mumme to SMU?
JJ will never give up play calling so long as he is the head coach. In my opinion JJ is finally becoming more open minded about adjusting the R & S to incorporate other systems and utilizing a TE and a running QB. Even the NFL rediscovered the TE several years back and you now have at least 5 NFL QBs who run with called plays and reads.
Re: Hal Mumme to SMU?
In addition to those things, JJ needs help speeding up the tempo of the offense. While the rest of football is speeding up the game and using hurry-up, no-huddle tactics, JJ's system slows the game down. Everyone else is running more offensive plays per game while we tend to condense games into fewer plays, fewer offensive possessions.
Of course, that was an early criticism of the Run and Shoot - too many quick 3-and-outs on offense ends up tiring out your own defense. Maybe that's why JJ's offense evolved into such a slow tempo. But the name of the game today is to create mismatches by hurrying to the line of scrimmage and keeping the defense from substituting.
