Austxpony, I'd hope that some rich alum buys ESPN/ABC, or CBS, or Fox or NBC. Let's think big. And then have that owner say, which of you conferences wants a big fat contract, but the kicker is that you have to add SMU. Now that's thinking BIG.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

And, ... we should ask all of Alabama commitments to switch to SMU. Why hasn't someone made those calls. And, and, ... why have we not accepted our SEC invitation yet. There is no reason to sit on it or Notre Dame's pleading that we start a home and home series. And, and, and ....why are we returning $1m to each of the Circle of Champion donors, simply because we don't need the funds. These are serious questions for Turner. I know he has been very attentive in working to progress our Athletic circumstance, but the above omissions are inexcusable.

Here's a post and article I put on Rivals but the value of future NCAA BB Tournament unit credits through 2018 might be where we see the value of Big East membership filtered down to SMU. Has anybody seen how these BB credit units are being divided-I thought they remained with the surviving conference and don't move to the departing schools

You know BB Tournament credit units are worth millions through the NCAA BB Tournament Revenue distribution syatem and since the Big East has a bunch of accrued credit units they are probably a huge chunk of the proceeds. This economic analysis of Big East unit credits from BB Tournament indicates that the Big East received 23 Million in 2012-and you need to understand that each unit earned continues for 6 years so that a Tournament appearance in 2013 continues to earn a share of NCAA payouts until 2018. I've read the Big East had units 113 earned over previous six years at $242,000 for each credit. I thought the conference not schools retain credits so maybe our payout will come based on those existing NCAA credits through 2018. Here's a Forbes article from 2012 explaining how credit units are the gift that keeps on giving

They do stay with the conference, however, along with everything else we have inexplicably agreed to give them away. This is from ESPN.

As part of the Catholic 7 schools' exit agreement with the Big East, the schools will keep all of their NCAA tournament units, sources told McMurphy

ESPN and the Catholic 7 have absolutely gutted this conference, and the Big East hasn't so much as lifted a finger. Mike Aresco isn't a Commissioner, he's that guy that's hired to oversee the orderly dismantling of the underperforming regional office, pull down the flag and turn out the lights. This has become a gawddamn fire-sale.

You seem to have some pretty strong opinions about how things ought to be run. Please enlighten us as to what you would have done differently.

Not the argument I was making. It's just sad seeing nearly everything we were excited for regarding the Big East sold away for essentially chump change...BE basketball, MSG, Big East national brand

I have to say you have to put it into perspective. Who got hit the hardest? The schools from the BE who got a huge degrade. We are getting a slight upgrade so there's that. I couldn't agree more, entry fee should be refunded and maybe the amount we are getting from tv money (so 1year tv money handed to us). I still think and I think alot of outsiders see this conference is still better (relatively) to the MWC. So all and all it sounds really crappy but you have to realize who's hurting more? The uninvited big teams or the newbies who haven't even tasted BCS...

where are all those fans arguing that they are glad the Big East got raided so they can win more games against CUSA level teams and make the Toilet Bowl with 6-6 record. That's your argument in happily hosting the great Montana St. Grizzlies. Guess what nobody will hand you the big bucks for playing teams nobody watches-because nobody cares

We might be favored in two (Memphis and Temple) conference games all season, and none of the OOC games against Tech, TCU, and A&M. Two of those teams (TCU and A&M) will be top 20 teams and A&M will be top 5. Baylor might be ranked preseason as well. Really doesnt make sense to schedule 4 OOC games that you could reasonably go 0-4 in, in my opinion.

I was pissed at first when we dropped BU as well, but then I started acting like a grown up and realized it made sense. I know you like to act like a [deleted] sometimes and shout from your soap box, but get over it already. TCU wasnt scheduling murderer's row OOC when they were making their climb from football obscurity, either.
