You should see some of the unwanted midget p*ssing contests over on the new conference board. I've never seen such a combination of self-aggrandizement, self-delusion and self-pity before (even here on Ponyfans). Half want to kill themselves and everyone else and the other half think their program is the best in FBS and on the way to a Big 5 conference in the next year.

I can actually sympathize to an extent...it is pretty much like our experience when Texas and A&M killed the SWC and left half of us behind. Wish we would have had the ability to back fill and keep the conference alive.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
If SMU had make an effort to field competitive programs from 89-94 then there was a good chance that we would have landed in a much better place after the SWC apocalypse. Not only did the school not even attempt to win in football, it doubled down on the damage done by the death penalty and crippled the program for the next decade.
It really is a shame. There is no way to wind back the clock but SMU will be paying for the sins of the Pye administration for the remainder of its history. We may one day be a pretty solid football program and who knows? Maybe one day we can be an elite basketball program. But we will never again be what we were or even worse, what we could have been.
I'm not going to get involoved in the koch measuring contest here - but it was shown that the group A and B designations were not accurate as far as a measurement for importance to the network. It was a risk-management measure. Otherwise, at least ONE FLORIDA school would be on that list.
You are going to tell me that TEMPLE is more valuable than either USF or UCF. Again, the simplest explanation is usually the correct one.

Y'all need to get over the errors of the past and move forward. SMU will "never" be what you could have been? That's just loser talk.
never thought i'd say this - but Johnny is correct. Would anyone have thought we could do what we have done so far in basketball ? (acknowledging nothing has happened on the court yet). How about a 300 million dollar Presidential library, the best one in the country? You small minded people are not picking up on our culture around here.

When that culture finally spreads to football it will be picked up by all.

You are basically talking about recruiting success-I think its been entirely forseeable and was actually predicted based upon the Head Coach and nationally prominent recruiting staff Brown hired. Each of these guys have the recruiting skins to prove it-even at Houston. I think its entirely forseeable that June Jones wallows in mediocrity until June Jones hires an aggressive young recruiting staff
"With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris
When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.
Preach on, ponyboy. We'd be gearing up for another year in a watered down CUSA with MTSU, UNT, and Florida International if JJ hadn't come here in the first place.
