Do you think the value / cost to buyout of GOR diminishes over time?

I wonder if the cost to a UT / OU would be negligible with 3-5 yrs left?

Right.

Just like Colorado and Nebraska didn't have to do anything for 15 years.

Just like Texas A&M, Missouri, and Nebraska were openly courting other conferences years before they left.

What are they - 2, 3 years into it the agreement already? Give it another 3 or 4 years, they can start talking - seriously - about leaving again. Just enough time for the other major conferences to get a handle on their new additions and evaluate the additional revenue more schools would bring.

Texas doesn't own their rights any more if they leave. This is completely different from all examples you listed. The Grant of Rights changed the game from the days of the increased Withdrawal Penalty. Multiply 4-5 years x the yearly Big 12 Payout. No conference will throw that kind of money away even to get Texas. Maybe 1 year out-maybe. The Networks can always renegotiate if they fear losing a school like Texas-it happens with almost every BCS conference all the time. Right now the Big 12 is getting damn good numbers based on 10 team contract-no other AVAILIABLE school (if ACC GOR is signed, sealed and delivered) with possible exception of BYU would increase per team payout. Texas has revenues of about $150 Million a year easily No. 1 in the Country. Big 12 doesn't have to do a thing for more than a decade. Competitively, Big 12 have 9 out of 10 teams qualify for a Bowl and had best Computer rankings overall

I personally would love to be in a conference with Texas or any other legit, big time program.

a high percentage of TCU fans said the same thing until they heard that they had an offer from the Big 12 -then they wet their pants. its the same idiotic argument that the Big East was a better option for SMU than the Big 12. How did that turn out?

FWIW: TCU and Texas have a great relationship. Dodds and Del Conte are buds. Sure, remains to be tested, but noteworthy nonetheless.

The trouble in Big XII paradise will come as Texas and OU rake in the lion's share of $$$$ and the other schools begin to get envious. The problem for them is that there is no where else to go and they're better off getting the crumbs of the Big XII, than an equal share of the American. If the B1G or SEC decides to make a play for Kansas down the road that could be a game changer for the Big XII. The problem for KU is KSU and Bill Snyder can't live forever. They are a joined at the hip.

actually I believe the Big 12 now shares their Tier 1 revenues equally. Not much for the small schools to [deleted] about

TCU knows their place and is thrilled to be riding Texas' coat tails and earning the conference revenue they do. Texas hasn't looked favorably at SMU since we cheated better than they did and beat them towards the end of the SWC days. They seem to be the one school from the old SWC that refuses to schedule SMU in any sport

Obviously, there is a reason UT has not and likely will not be playing SMU in Dallas. But anyway a bunch of SMU fans would rather play Texas State before 18,000 than "lose" to Texas before a full house and risk Petunia Bowl eligibility
