The ECU game was the Margus Hunt blocked field goal for a TD that changed the game, IIRC. It was the difference in the game - so it was a big one as well.

With all of the attention Tech has received from the hiring of Coach Kliff, a win against Tech would be big for SMU and JJ. Most important in his tenure, I am not so sure.
I know it is a cliche but I believe every game is big and important. What happens if SMU beats Tech then only wins 3 maybe 4 games the rest of the year? How would the Tech victory be perceived at that point?
I am not hoping this is the scenario that plays out, just saying the importance of each game. IMO

UAB victory in his second year at SMU. Big lead at half but had to hold on at the end to win after Der Bell carted off with what looked like a devastating neck injury. After winning one game the first year and looking bad against SFA in a week one victory of year 2 took some of the pressure off and was a springboard to more wins later in the season with the change of QB's and winning the games they are supposed to win. Proved to be a solution to going to bowls....win one or two in non-conference and beat the bad teams in CUSA such as Tulane, Rice, Memphis and UTEP and you are eligible. Victory last year over Tulsa was an aberration.
