What did he do? I heard Sumlin really being critical of the incident but had switched to the Arkansas game and did not see what actually happened.

After a touchdown pass, he started mouthing off to a couple of Rice DB's. the Rice players kept at him, then JF started pointing at them and jawing.
The announcers thought the Rice players were giving him grief about the autograph controversy. Summerlin said at the end of game he bench JF because of the incident. Of course Ags were up 25 points by then. Wonder if summerlin would have done the same if it had been Alabama and a close game.

Based on last night and watching a decent Rice today team give up 52 points, I am a little nervous.

Rice tackled better, had a better defensive scheme, had a better running game and moved he ball more efficiently than SMU '12. Not bad for a school that "clearly isn't interested at competing athletically". They're better coached than we are; get over yourself.
