PK's right. We're mediocre in football because of the recruiting effort by the staff. While one sport can help the other, results come down to recruiting. We've got all the momentum in the world in basketball but I haven't read one report or heard one football recruit say anything about how well LB and the bball program are doing. Bottom line is we've got the #1 or #2 recruit in the country in basketball, and we've got about ten 2-star "diamond in the rough" recruits with two 3-star QBs in football. You simple cannot expect to compete or beat BCS schools with recruiting like that year after year. After the season, the powers that be are going to have to force JJ to change his staff or change the head coach. Otherwise, we are stuck.

the problem is that the real dead weight "retired" last year-and June ain't going to fire his inner core of coaches. That's why the failure to address this problem with the retirement of the 3 Amigos was a blown opportunity.

I want the equivalent of Maligi, Turner, Howard and Jank on our football staff.

Ace recruiters with connections, quality coaches/coordinators - the HC can be a figurehead like Mack Brown or he can be an X's and O's guy like Chad Morris. Or he could be both like LB.

And don't give me the FB is different than BB recruiting speech. It is different in that one or 2 kids make a big difference, whereas in FB you need more. But the process is still the same - building relationships, selling your product, hard work.

It can be done. Klemm brought kids from Cali to SMU - and though some didn't pan out or went elsewhere - he was building us up on the right track. We had 4 star guys listening to us, ready to come here. It can be done!

Look at UCLA. Do you think Mora is that great of a coach? It has a lot more to do with him bringing in a staff, which includes Klemm, of hungry recruiters who are in every HS in California selling UCLA. 5 years ago UCLA was an afterthought to top Cali recruits. That has changed. Mora, like LB has name recognition, but they both realize you have to bring in a staff with connections in your own backyard to get it done. The results are already showing. UCLA is bball school but they now have LA talking UCLA football. In a few months I believe the same thing will happen in Dallas, everyone talking SMU basketball.
