I have said before that we need to look at Mark Hudspeth and I will say it again:

86-31 as a HC.

Being in LA he must have some TX connections.

And for those of you who want intensity, he just benched 225x25.

Interesting option, but he'll be out if we want a "splash" hire.

We can do it. We hired Larry Brown, a guy who has won championships in college and the pros. Don't forget, June was a "splash" hire as well. We can do it again.

But we have to get an interview with both. As much of long shot as it would be, we must try to hit a HR. this hire is going critical.

just like the last hire was...the Mob Boss and ED hit a home run then. Bigger ballpark now, need a bigger swing

As far as that goes, I would be open to looking at Petrino...with a very carefully crafted contract...

Absolutely agree.

If nothing else we should have the guts to pick the phone up and make the call.

I think that because of his ethical shortcomings, there's a very slim chance that RGT signs off on Petrino.

It's unfortunate that he's such a [deleted] person because damn he can coach

Ok once again I shall try. And this is base only on the understanding that there would be an opening.

I would be in favor of considering the coach that began the turn around of Boise State from a sleepy little team to the powerhouse it has become. The same man that took an SEC team to 3 West Division Championships. A coach who turned around 3 different programs in about a 10 year period even though he is a little heavy on the text messages to his girl friend.

Where is Houston Nutt these days?

He is counting buy out money from what I know. He is not coaching anywhere. He is speaking at the Little Rock Touchdown Club this week (tomorrow?). I will find out more when I hear the report.

No thank you. Houston Nutt would only be here to cash a paycheck

We need someone hungry who wants to win and make a name for themselves. I don't care if we lose a HC to a Big XII or SEC team in the future. We should want that to happen

craft the contract carefully...no bikes, no blondes, etc...
and use the buyout as the insurance regarding fulfillment of the terms. He would want (and should) get back to a competitive school, in a competitive conference...even if we are just "the next step up"

If you want to WIN, then hire Petrino, the sorry man he is can produce. Just put handcuffs on the contract. Make it a 5-year deal with escalating yearly salary. 1.5 (1.5 for assistants), 2.0, 2.0, 3.0, 3.5 with a buy-out clause equal to the remaining terms.

Anyone think KLEMM could be a viable candidate if we are going the Assist. Coach route - he can hire experienced coordinators and be the HC / Recruiter in chief.

Houston Nutt is one who would look out for number 1. He would come into this town and turn it upside down with energy and new, good recruits. He would be the best thing to happen to the SMU program since Ron Meyer. Now after about 2 or 3 years you would be tired of him, but he would get us where we needed to be at the next level with an energy you have not seen before unless you witnessed it first hand. He is exactly what most on this board have been clamoring for. And then he would be gone.
