By 1999, we had 2 home games where announced attendance was 7,500 and 8,000 one year (which we all know means there were fewer than that actually there). I don't think some people realize how bad it was.

You do realize that the game on Saturday will have attendance that is right in that range right? Even with Parents Weekend we will have less than 10K in the stands and less than 5K by the fourth quarter.

Well we do have less recruiting restrictions now and should expect better now. I think under any coach now it should be better than then. Now let's go to a BCS game this year while we have a chance. GO SMU.

If they announce an attendance of 8,000 on Saturday, I will return to proclaim that things are just as bad now. Those crowds of 7-8,000 were also in a 68,000+ seat stadium.

LOL. SMU will "announce" a crowd of 16.5K but an easy look at the stands will reveal that we'll have about 9K at the start of the game.

I just don't understand how any sane and or rational human can look themselves in the mirror week after week and still believe all the crap you spit out. I mean, do you believe yourself? Seriously? Sure, it was awful. But June has served his purpose and its time to move on. It's kind of like Mike Sherman at A&M. He undid the damage done by Fran's arrogant attitude towards Texas high school coaches and got the recruiting in order but they knew he was never going to take them to the next level. So even though he was an extremely nice man who had some success it was time to make a change.

June is in that category. He looks as if he has checked out mentally and become complacent. Just b/c he has presided over better football than the dark years post DP does not mean he should get a pass. Hell, a large part of his success is simply b/c SMU actually has an admin that gives a damn now. Going to 4 bowls in a row is great but even that isn't a much of a feather in his cap since these days it's almost impossible to miss a bowl if you go 6-6. It's so easy to make a bowl you could still make one going 5-6 against FBS teams b/c there are no longer rules that discount wins against FCS teams.

This is year 6 for a coach making $2 million a year in the recruiting hotbed of Texas. Getting blown out by teams with a pulse and hopefully eking out enough wins vs the dregs of CFB to make a low level bowl should no longer be acceptable. If he can't get to 8 wins (I'm generously accepting a bowl win in that tally) while staying competitive in the losses he should be put out to pasture and SMU should look for a young energetic coach who can can get the fanbase and recruits excited.

#50 in 2011. How many of that class's recruits are still around? Who were the top three or so from that class? They would be RS-Sophomores or true Juniors or departed JUCOs.

GG would have come in 2012 and not counted towards the rankings. Wouldn't his commitment help the recruiting buzz?

Top two aren't on the roster. Other three redshirted in 2011. Yenga had the most impact in his RS-Freshman year with 13 games played. Weeks played in six and Nlemchi played in three. Good job of redshirting. The classes of '10 and '09 would be more indicative of this year's success, and the top two from '11 are gone, although there are ten California players on the roster.

Lot of busts in that class, what few aren't busts are merely decent players (Yenga, Niemchi, Sanders, Lasecki, Joseph). Moreland never made it and Levingston ended up transferring.
