Now that's just being cranky...we sell out or nearly sell out every big-time game. If we played in the B12, our conference attendance average would be ~30K. But yes, it's the other team's fans. #Reality #WeHaveAReallySmallNaturalFanbase

Believe me, it would sell out quickly, remember Alabama is now a 56% out of state student body. Of that group, Texas supplies a large part of those students. They are mostly suburban kids from DFW (Plano, Allen, Flower Mound, HP, and Southlake) and Houston (Katy, Woodlands, and Clear Lake areas). All of them would behave much better than the Sand Aggies. And, in return welcome us nicely to Tuscaloosa. I'd just get drunk for that game - couldn't function.

I think PonyTE will agree with me when I say that from the time the NFL came to town until the present we have relied on the fan base from large regional state schools to fill up the stands. Not only in terms of the numbers that they bring, but in terms of interest among our own alums. Very few of us are going to have a water cooler encounter with a Rutgers alum on Monday morning. This is why it is critical for us to align with a major conference that includes some big state universities within driving distance. Arkansas, Texas A&M and LSU would easily sell out Ford if we had been lucky enough to enter the SEC. Ditto almost any of the Big 12 schools. The catch 22 is that unless we draw good numbers they are not going to give us a second look.

I wasn't trolling. Every time someone exclaims "terrible fans" or "pathetic turnout", to me the answer is rather obvious: people don't show up to SMU games because they don't want to be at SMU games. The solution is figuring out why. I personally don't think it has to do with pathetic-ness. There are reasonable reasons why, which I succinctly pointed out.
