If it adds a 1 in the win column, it's not a fake win. You're clearly jealous of UH's recent success. SMU can achieve it too, they just have to work at it.
I'll just call all my friends and the AD and we'll work on it. Thanks for the advice. I'm sure all of us on PF have a buddy that can influence Rick

The reason JJ tried to leave is the cause of our woes. Apathetic, gin and tonic types with no soul. Invite Dallas to the Bubble and pop the damned thing wide open. No more soirees, no more driving daddy's car.

More fake wins everybody, we need the "success" that comes with half-empty stadiums, meaningless bowls and dead-end conferences

Oh so that's it. That's the solution. We just need to schedule Alabama and beat them. We just need to go to the Rose Bowl every year. We just need an SEC invite. That's the solution we've all been overlooking. Thanks sb

What we need to do is actually work for something (fix recruiting, play & beat teams that matter, build a brand associated with accomplishment not cowardice), we're not getting a golden ticket out of G5 purgatory on the back of fake wins and half-empty crowds. Small time thinking begets small time results.

So you don't believe in the rachet up the quality of competition as you improve every year theory? You don't worry about starting every conference slate 1-3 or 0-4?

My whole point is that we wouldn't have to worry about going 1-3 or 0-4 if we fixed our talent problem. Going 4-0/3-1 against scabs isn't going to fool anyone (certainly not in Dallas) especially if you start losing once you take on better competition (see 2011). Why not just cut out the middleman and go the Southland Conference since everyone is obsessed with making Southland caliber players look better by playing Southland competition? Does anyone want anything more for this program than fake wins and meaningless bowls?

Agreed wholeheartedly that it starts with talent. We need a staff that excels in that area. Thank you JJ and goodbye.

Short term cupcakes for padding then go for big time OOC.

This. ^^^

I also respectfully disagree with SBsmith - nobody cares about the SoS or quality of your wins unless you are trying to make the CFB playoffs.

You really think Dallasites pay attention to who we play? ALL that matters is wins at this point. that is it. Build on that, continually, and for a decade, and we may begin to sniff TCU's jock. But we also have to BEAT 1 or 2 big guys along the way, but we do not need a murderer's row schedule. We just aren't there yet guys.

I hear they have sleek chrome jocks to impress recruits with lots of uniform options.

You're right Dallasites don't pay attention to who we play and they won't until we start beating teams that matter. We have don't have a decade to blow chasing around fake wins (should have been doing all that crap back when TCU was getting serious about football).

The ground floor is winning and the second floor is beating teams that matter.

"Did you hear? SMU's winning games again"

"Oh, I hear they are playing X power team and it should be a good game."

or

"Son, I want you on my team" - some coach who is recruiting (gasp)

"I'd be honored to join a program with winning tradition."

Trust me, I've played enough EA Sports NCAA Football Dynasty mode to know I'm right.

I fully agree that our window isn't that long and we have missed opportunities over the years. I just don't think one coach is going to turn it around at SMU. Unless there is a full commitment from the BOT, Pres, AD, fans, students, alums, etc - I just don't see it. Until then, we cannot compete with the teams you want to play. Baylor Tech Tamu routinely blow our doors off. You really think we will/can compete with Michigan in 2018?? I don't - unless something changes.

I agree that ECM that RGTurner's presidency should be forever stained if we are in fact relegated to a lower-tier status in CFB.

I unfortunately see that coming for us. Again, unless we make the commitment now!
