You know, I've been thinking about the basketball search committee and how all that went. Everyone is in agreement that the LB hire was phenomenal, but have we forgotten the complete embarrassment that led up to that? And that LB begging to come here was the only thing that saved us from a complete mess? I appreciated we aimed high, but we saw pretty quickly the lack of interest in coming here, even for big bucks. And football is certainly more difficult to rebuild than hoops.
That was Orsini doing. We have a new AD now so let's give him a chance. With the way our recruiting has been going we were headed towards a downturn anyway. We were going to have o replace JJ at sometime anyway. And he obviously as seen in the past goes not want to be here.

Agreed. I've spoken to Morris on multiple occasions. He is a real stand-up guy and one heck of a ball coach

Is Gilbert's dad a friend of Junes?

On a side note 2 win seasons are coming back with our without June gone as our recruited talent is quickly resembling June's first year.
Unfortunately, couch 'em's side note is spot on. Unless we become JUCO U for a couple of years, the cupboard will be bare.

If this is true, I certainly hope the CofC has already identified a short of candidates.

Well, Orsini is gone. And every single coaching search Orsini led or had a significant hand in was a complete fiasco.

I still want to know if the COC will be funding this. If not, we are going to be paying far less for a football coach.

Is June's agent still Leigh Steinberg? If so, I wouldnt worry about him trashing SMU b/c he's got his own host of issues

Probably something that has already been in the works and you won't find out.

I'm wondering as well, just how much does the CoC truly care going forward after seeing their initial investment yield decent, not great, results.

I will say I have a lot of confidence in Rick Hart leading the search. His Dad is the Tennessee AD and just went through the same process last year and appears to have made a pretty solid hire in Butch Jones (#2 recruiting class in the country right now for 2014). Not sure why some people here insist on bashing Rick at every opportunity

Agree, I think he will do well if a search occurs.

I am confident SMU will hire the next coach that will propel us to the top 25.

Given the fact that this info is floating around and is coming from presumably the CoC, I don't see them taking their checkbooks and going home. To get to where you can stroke those kinds of checks, failure to receive your expected return on investment isn't an option very often. I think they are committed to success for the school, and they are using their influence to get it done. When JJ got here, he did what he was asked to do - he got people believing SMU can win again. Now, he can't deliver what the CoC or the fan base expect winning to mean (which is competing at an elite level), so they are out to find the person who can take that next step. They're all in deep enough to want to see it through, and if they weren't committed to SMU they wouldn't have signed on in the first place. My hope is that JJ leaves in a cordial manner with acknowledgement from SMU of what he has done for us, and that we make sure ALL of the elements are in place for the next guy to kick it up a notch or twenty. It ain't just about the coach; the whole institution needs to be aligned to commit to what elite level athletics means and requires. I'm hoping they get there. Just two cents from a guy who definitely is on the outside looking in.

If CoC don't wanna pay much we'll probably end up with someone like Willie Fritz.

Who knows....maybe the guy would do ok here?
