Your school has plenty of money and can afford them.

Plus it does wonders towards recruiting.
we are poor and can't afford it apparently but UH can.

Don't forget, SMU is a university worth attending, and therefore spends must of its budget on academics, not uniforms.

We have a lot of things that need to be improved, as a football program, as an athletic department and as a university. The current red Nike uniforms are horrible, but are way down the list of things that need attention and money from the school.

 You mean tacky uniforms that look they were plucked from a ghetto flea market aren't a priority for the school?

These alternate uniforms are terrible and everyone knows it (except Nike/ Athletic derpartments who cash the checks.)

And really, we shouldn't let 17-18 year old man-children recruits dictate what our uniforms look like. Playing for a university is more than a tacky uniform choice.

But it just shows the SMU stereotype that we are inflexible, not modern, and does not reach out or try to connect with the community. I guess kind of like our recruiting we want the recruits to come to us not us reach to them. That elitiest attitude. The school picked out the uniforms in the first place not Nike (per SID).

Oh yes, not liking [deleted]-assed ugly uniforms are totally elitist and totally the reason why recruits aren't pounding down our doors.

Honest question: if we were 10-2 would we be having this discussion? No we would not because recruits care about winning (against good teams) not whether our uniforms are grey with blue and red speckles on the side.

A article was written on the fact that uniforms help to recruit not that is the deciding factor but they help. And we need all the help we can get since we are not going 10-2. Also we should be pounding recruits doors down not them pounding our doors down. Telling kids to heck with what you think without even considering it is sticking our elitist noises in the air at the kids to a degree imo. But we are SMU and we frown down upon that type of thing right?

And this is SMU's problem.

It's the athletic department's problem. They will decide whether or not to go this way and will more likely not change up.

I agree that kids want to play in cool unis. The switch to Nike is what they really wanted. That being said, we have some of the BEST looking unis in the country, even with Nike's crappy execution of our color scheme. We ought to alternate red and blue and wear white on the road.

We need to bring back the stripe on the pants.

If they could do something with those ugly big junior high looking stripes on the shoulders we would be fine. But they are not some of the best looking uniforms in the country. I tend to agree with class of 81 on how they look. But next year hopefully we select a better style. There is always hope. Will we see the blues at least one more time this year?

True, uniforms don't seem to be an issue with SMU Basketball.

Basketball uniforms are not bad looking that's why but it's not really the same type of situation imo. In basketball it is more shoes and now people are starting to get into courts. Also more components to be creative with in football as in helmets, gloves etc. The article Reb posted was pretty good. I do find it interesting that some of the same people that say we should not be concerned at all about uniform are some of the say people they are asking the AD to get blue uniforms. Seems a bit hypocritical to me.
