we are poor and can't afford it apparently but UH can.Cougar King wrote:After seeing our Halloween uniforms for Thursday's game against USF a few minutes ago (https://twitter.com/uhcougarfb/status/3 ... 2001608704 and https://twitter.com/uhcougarfb/status/3 ... 2135036928) and Tech's all grays against OU this past weekend, that had me wondering why SMU hasn't come out with an alternate uniform yet. Your school has plenty of money and can afford them.
Plus it does wonders towards recruiting.

We have a lot of things that need to be improved, as a football program, as an athletic department and as a university. The current red Nike uniforms are horrible, but are way down the list of things that need attention and money from the school.
But it just shows the SMU stereotype that we are inflexible, not modern, and does not reach out or try to connect with the community. I guess kind of like our recruiting we want the recruits to come to us not us reach to them. That elitiest attitude. The school picked out the uniforms in the first place not Nike (per SID).covok48 wrote:These alternate uniforms are terrible and everyone knows it (except Nike/ Athletic derpartments who cash the checks.)
And really, we shouldn't let 17-18 year old man-children recruits dictate what our uniforms look like. Playing for a university is more than a tacky uniform choice.
Oh yes, not liking [deleted]-assed ugly uniforms are totally elitist and totally the reason why recruits aren't pounding down our doors.Rebel10 wrote:But it just shows the SMU stereotype that we are inflexible, not modern, and does not reach out or try to connect with the community. It's the athletic department's problem. They will decide whether or not to go this way and will more likely not change up.Cougar King wrote:covok48 wrote:These alternate uniforms are terrible and everyone knows it (except Nike/ Athletic derpartments who cash the checks.)

And this is SMU's problem.

Honest question: if we were 10-2 would we be having this discussion? No we would not because recruits care about winning (against good teams) not whether our uniforms are grey with blue and red speckles on the side.
Basketball uniforms are not bad looking that's why but it's not really the same type of situation imo. In basketball it is more shoes and now people are starting to get into courts. Also more components to be creative with in football as in helmets, gloves etc. The article Reb posted was pretty good. I do find it interesting that some of the same people that say we should not be concerned at all about uniform are some of the say people they are asking the AD to get blue uniforms. Seems a bit hypocritical to me.sbsmith wrote:covok48 wrote:

True, uniforms don't seem to be an issue with SMU Basketball.
